5.0 out of 5 stars A good way to keep you and your laptop cool!

Unfortunately my notebook like most, has its cooling intake fan on the bottom, so when I put the laptop on my lap or on a pillow on my lap, the fan gets blocked and my computer gets hot.

1.0 out of 5 stars laptop slides off!
I really tried to use this for a day or two but my laptop (macbook pro) kept sliding off and pushing into my stomach. Since I type all day my wrists couldn't take the discomfort of being too close to my body. Maybe not so for all laptops but the picture you see with it sitting on a flat surface would mean a macbook pro sliding off completely.

When I found this product I was looking to buy a laptop cooler with fans, because I use my laptop on my.. lap pretty much all the time. Unfortunately my notebook like most, has its cooling intake fan on the bottom, so when I put the laptop on my lap or on a pillow on my lap, the fan gets blocked and my computer gets hot.

After looking at dozens of cooling units with fans, and reading many reviews on the same product, I realized that I don't need more fans, I just need to stop covering up the one that's already in my computer.

When I saw this Cushtop Notebook Stand, I thought, that might work. And work it does! Note only does it have semi-hard surfaces for the laptop to sit on, which keeps the fan intake open allowing my laptop to cool itself, but both surfaces (both sides) have a very nice fabric covering with a unique texture that keeps my laptop from sling off. I can tilt this notebook cooler more than 45 degrees to either side, and the laptop stays secure without straps or any kind of fastening devices. This same fabric texture keeps the Notebook Stand securely on your lap, so you never feel like the laptop is going to slide off of you when you move around a bit.

Now I said earlier that this Notebook stand has "semi-hard" surfaces on both sides, so these are the same surfaces that will be against your legs when this is on your lap. The surfaces both have a firm sponge lining that is comfortable, and the unit itself weighs practically nothing so the only weight you will feel on your legs is that of your laptop.

I must say that I bought this product thinking that it would be just "good for now" until I found a cooler I really liked, but I think that this is the perfect solution for people who want to use their laptops on their legs.

Its very comfortable, and it unblocks your fans which keeps your laptop cool. I can't recommend this product enough to people who think they need an additional fan-based cooler to keep their laptops cool. It silent and it works!

I ordered 2 of these. You turn the very hard cushion over depending on the size of your laptop. It is just too 'high' for comfortable use of the keyboard. Also, the opening for cord storage is too narrow and it is nearly impossible to get the plug into/through it and there is no way the power 'pak' would fit, so I can't use it. I think I am going to cut it in half, may be more effective. The only plus I see is that my lap does not get hot from the computer, hence 3 stars, although it does not appear to allow the computer to cool, it still gets hot. My husband does not use the one I bought him, again it is to high. it is better than nothing.
wouldn't recommend it.

I really like the Belkin Cushtop. Previously I was using just a regular sofa pillow but it became too hot over time and it was not steady as it would sink. I got the Cushtop and immediately noticed the difference. First, it is steady so it much better for typing on your laptop. Also, it keeps your lap from getting hot (I usually wear shorts when I'm using my laptop on the sofa).

I bought this stand for my wife and she just loves it. She has tried others and they never live up to their ads. This one does, it is light, well made and comfortable for long periods of web surfing. Wished I had found this sooner, it would have saved time and money on the lap desks you see everywhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars comfy, not cool, October 23, 2007

Essentially, this product does what it is supposed to, which is protect your lap/legs from the heat of your laptop while providing a comfortable solution for using your laptop around the house. the space in between is good for storing extra cables and or extra length to things you have plugged into your computer such as your headphones, mouse, etc. A full sized mouse will not fit inside, but i imagine a notebook mouse would. the open middle seems perfectly placed to allow for you to easily pick it up with while still grasping your laptop securely to move it from place to place; a very useful feature i had not thought about until after i had started using it.
I have a 17" laptop and the larger side fits it well without the computer hanging over the edge or anything, and puts the computer at a more comfortable level to look at and type on. The one thing I need to stress is that this will not keep your laptop itself cool, and with my computer it seems to get even hotter than with normal use based on the temperature readings. You are essentially using your computer on an elevated surface with no real ventilation, so i am planning on cutting a hole in mine leading to the open middle area allowing it to vent out the sides and hopefully keep the computer more cool. it seems odd they would design this thing with an open middle but not incorporate actual ventilation to it, but oh well. its a good product and worth the money i paid for it, and has made using my laptop around the apartment a lot more comfortable.

2.0 out of 5 stars Blocks cooling vents, December 2, 2008
This review is from: Belkin F8N044-SLV CushTop Notebook Stand (Silver) (Personal Computers)
The firm surface is still too soft for the laptop. Before too long my laptop's "legs" sunk into the padding. The bottom was then completely sitting on the fabric and blocked the air vents, no different than using a pillow. They should just make a 15" model and a 17" model with one hardened side. Laptop's need a hard surface to sit on, not a firm surface. Bought an xpad and like it very much.

Keeps your lap cool and is great when using on a couch or bed, where it will really overheat (blocking vents on bottom). It's firm enough to keep air flow under the laptop. Does not slide easy to keep it secure. A removable, washable cover would have been nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars comfortable, lightweight, raises screen to eye level, June 4, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Belkin F8N044-SLV CushTop Notebook Stand (Silver) (Personal Computers)
I'm very happy with this product; I use it with my MacBook. It is lightweight, yet feels substantial enough for even my old (heavier) pc laptop. I find it very comfortable on my lap; no scratching or sharp corners. My laptop stays on the surface well -- not slippery at all. I especially like it's thickness and angle, as it brings the screen up to eye level for me. The only downside is that the keyboard is now a bit too high and I find my wrists resting on the edge of the computer, which causes minor discomfort. Heat-wise, it's perfect for my MacBook which doesn't have fans/vents on the bottom, so I can't comment on how well it would work with a vented pc.

I had a Lapinator; by comparison this is about the same weight but better construction. My Lapinator warped soon after I got it, and didn't raise the screen as high. I'd recommend the CushTop over the Lapinator, at least for MacBook owners.
