Product Description

The Belkin FastFit Keyboard Case for iPad mini is the lightest and thinnest enhancement to your iPad mini experience! It's a case for your iPad mini and it's a comfortable, long-lasting wireless keyboard, allowing for easy typing to update social media, a blog or even texting!. The keyboard's TruType keys are larger than most 7" keyboards, and perform like laptop-type keys, allowing for fast typing with fewer errors than other small keyboards.

From the Manufacturer

The thin, lightweight Belkin FastFit Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard Case for iPad mini pairs durable protection with an easy-to-use wireless keyboard. The keyboard features TruType keys that are larger than those found on most 7-inch keyboards, providing a comfortable alternative to touchscreen typing. Bluetooth connectivity and long-lasting battery life maximizes your efficiency and lets you use the keyboard for up to 40 hours on a single charge.

Lightweight, Reliable Protection

The FastFit iPad mini Keyboard Case is lighter and thinner than the iPad mini itself, making it extremely portable, while still providing durable protection. It is made from anodized aircraft grade aluminum, which is known for its strength and lightness. At just 7 millimeters thick, it maintains your iPad mini's sleek profile.

The FastFit iPad mini Keyboard supports both portrait and landscape viewing modes. When the case is closed, secure-hold magnets keep your iPad mini securely in place, while the case's smooth inner lining protects the screen from scratches and scuffs.

Comfortable Typing with TruType Keys

Large well-spaced keys make it possible to type faster and more accurately than using your touchscreen. The TruType keys mimic the keys on a standard keyboard and respond intuitively to your typing.

The keyboard also features iPad mini specific shortcut keys that allow you to easily adjust volume, control your music and movies, and copy and paste text.

Bluetooth Keyboard for Wireless Connectivity

The wireless keyboard seamlessly connects to your iPad mini via Bluetooth in just a few quick steps. Simply switch it on, pair it with your iPad mini, and it will stay connected via Bluetooth.

A 200 mAh battery and low-powered Bluetooth 3.0 lets you experience long-lasting battery life without compromising slimness. In fact, the keyboard can last for 40 hours of active use without needing another charge. Easily recharge the iPad mini case using the included USB-to-micro-USB cable.

AutoWake Magnets for Added Convenience

AutoWake magnets built into the frame make your iPad mini automatically wake when you open the cover.

Customer Reviews

Unpacking and setting up the keyboard was easy.
Ian Rushton
It has the standard keyboard layout and work great with iOS, and works good in Windows (a few keys do not work, but they are not that important).
David Bradshaw
I quickly pulled it off and went back to just typing on the screen.

I had the opportunity to review two nearly identical iPad Mini keyboards: This keyboard made by Belkin, and a Logitech one: Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover Mini for iPad mini - Black (920-005021)

At first glance, both are very similar. They both attach with a magnet to the edge of your iPad Mini, and they both provide a well-designed slot to hold your Mini at an angle while you type. To stow the Mini, you just flip the Mini down and slide it into the magnetic clasp. They both pair and connect fine. Both have good feel, just the right amount of resistance and the clicking is noticeable but not too loud. Both generate the same amount of clicking noise.

The first notable difference has to do with keyboard layout. Neither has standard key pitch. The Belkin's is a bit larger. Each has compromised to make the keys a bit bigger: The Belkin's omits the semicolon and apostrophe between the "L" and the "Enter" key, and the Logitech omits the Caps Lock key to the left (accessible using the blue "fn" button at the lower left). Since the Belkin's Amazon page doesn't have a straight-on view of the keyboard, I'll also mention that the "Delete" key on the Belkin is to the right of "P," not on the row above. (PC users: The Apple/Macintosh style "delete" key functions like "backspace" on PC keyboards and deletes text to the left of the cursor.) And finally, since there are fewer symbol keys to the right of the letters on the Belkin, if you find yourself regularly using these keys you will often be hunting for combo keypresses using the "Fn" key.

I am a minimalist - which is why I got and love the iPad mini. I got tired of lugging my Macbook Pro around when on weekend car trips or vacation flights. After 2 months owning the mini I got tired of using the touchscreen to type my emails. Keyboards are still the way to go when typing. This keyboard is perfect for me. It only a little larger than the iPad mini and completely eliminates any thought of taking my Mabook Pro with me. For a minimalist techy like myself, this is perfect!

This is the 2nd Bluetooth case I've been asked to review. The first was the Verbatim Folio Slim case for the full sized iPad; and I did not like it at all. This Belkin case, on the other hand, is so incrediblly thoughtful in its design; in its effort to get around the limitations of the allowed size, that I can't help but root for it. Yes, it is somewhat of a chore to type on such a small surface, but still much easier than typing on the Mini's virtual keyboard. Yes, this is not really a case, it's more of a SmartCover replacement, except you can't fold it in back out of the way; it's certainly not going to do much in the way of protecting the iPad from drop damage.

But it is pleasent, tearing the iPad out of the magnetic hinge and easily plopping it into the keyboard's precisely fitted slot, and then when done waving the iPad near the hinge and have it just click together. And a lot of thought went into key size, spacing and placement. I am always searching for that apostrophe key, or mistakenly hitting return as my fingers remember a missing semi-colon key, but really, what else would you have Belkin do, this is a keyboard for a miniature tablet. The geometry had to give somewhere.

Unfortunately, I have been seeing some sporatic dropping of the Bluetooth connection. I'll be typing away and the virtual keyboard will slide up, indicating the iPad is no longer in contact with the keyboard, and then a few keystrokes later, it'll go back again. This doesn't happen often, or I wouldn't be giving this device 4 stars, but often enough to be annoying.

This was pretty good. I was surprised at how far the range for the bluetooth was. Where it is nice to connect it when you are composing long emails on the ipad, I don't think it is something I would want to carry around attached to the device at all times. I don't think it offers much protection for the ipad and it increases the weight of the device. To me it was awkward when closed. If those last things do not matter to you, it would be a good product to own if you are one who writes a lot of emails, etc.

This is the first time that I am using a keyboard on a tablet - I never felt a need since I was mostly a content consumer except for a few emails that I do on my iPad Mini.

This being a first real keyboard - I did has problems adapting to it since I am either used to typing on a laptop or my tablet screen and 8.9" keyboard can never be as effective as a keyboard on my 15" laptop.

The first 2-3 days were the toughest, I took more time to type a word on this keyboard than on my tablet screen, but about a week later, I am able to type considerably faster on this keyboard. The biggest issue which I found is the location of the spacebar since I am so used to typing it with my right thumb and i have to stretch out to reach the space bar on this keyboard.

The build quality is amazing - which is typical of Belkin and they make top quality hardware.
