I am an iPhone 5 purist - my phone goes without a case. And it has the dings, scratches, and dents to show for it.

After putting this case through its paces I am very confident my iPhone would probably look as good as new despite the abuse I've put it through. The case is solid, sturdy, and fits the phone perfectly. While it lacks a screen protector, it does have a lip that extends over the edge of the phone to prevent the screen from directly coming into contact with a surface when it's placed screen down.

My only gripe, and this extends to most iPhone 5 cases, is that it adds some bulk and weight to the phone.

This case is perfect. It provides great protection to the phone, while looking good and not adding too much bulk to the phone.

There is a nice lip on the edges of the front and back, to provide protection to the surface. The lip on the front provides enough room on the face of the screen to not get in the way of a screen protector, so no worries of it bubbling the protector or peeling it off.

The plastic on the case seems top quality. There are two different textures; the texture on the edges and back is smooth, shiny, and grippy (but not too grippy as to attract dirt), while the texture on the lips is a tad rougher, matte, but doesn't add any grip. The inside of the case is bumpy, to provide an even distribution of force over the phone when dropped.

The sleep and volume buttons work perfectly, and do not require too much force to use. They seem to be well attached to the case, and should not fall off.

The holes for the headphone jack and lightning cord are perfect. There is plenty of room for the lightning cord, and comes in and out with no interference of the case. The headphone jack hole fits the three sets of headphones I have, so I assume there will no no problem there for anyone else. If you do have a fat headphone plug, there is a possibility that it won't fit. The diameter of the hole in the case is 7 mm. Also, no problem for the camera hole and the ring/silent switch.

At first I had some issues getting the phone in and out of the case, but once I figured out the right way to do it, it's really easy. To put it in, you want to put the left edge of the phone in first, follow with the top right corner, then push along the right edge. To take it out, do the reverse process.

I have had no problems with this case, it works just as a case should!

The Belkin Grip Cash for my iPhone 5 has a very good design in all respects but one. It's snug so the phone won't jiggle around inside the grip, keeping it safe from vibrations, abrasion, etc. The texture of the Grip case itself is great for keeping the phone steady in your hand. Some people live and work in hot or humid climates and their hands can get a little sweaty. The grip is rubbery and textured enough so that the phone won't slip from your hand easily at all. Push controls are placed perfectly, meaning that you can control your volume up/down buttons by pressing on the case covering them (marked + and -) and the contact is perfect. The on/off switch fits perfectly into its cutout, as does the photo lens and the mute switch.

As with many of these cases, the going gets a little rocky when you get to the plug-in area at the bottom of the device. The simple, thin Apple earplug jack fits nicely into the external jack, but I've seen other connectors that might not fit. The cutouts for the 2 speakers are well placed. No problem there. It's the Lightning plug jack that's the killer. The simple charging cord fits in there nicely, but the 30-pin to 9-pin adapter does not fit into the jack with the Belkin cover on. That means I can't charge my device or listen to my music on all the various speaker docks I have around the house. And for me, that's a killer.

So, if you don't use the adapter, you should be good to go. If you use the square 30-pin-to-Lightning (9-pin) adapter, forget it.

I'm currently using the Belkin Grip Candy Sheer Case / Cover for Apple iPhone 5 (Black) which has a slimmer and more flexible fit than this Grip Max case. The grip Max is a very stiff fit but not impossible to get onto the phone. I liked the slightly indented back, it has a nice feel and comfortable fit for your fingers. The front lip is raised so setting your phone face down is not likely to lead to casual scratches. I still prefer the Candy Sheer because the Grip Max adds more weight to the phone and is about twice as thick. While my 3rd party headphones fit fine, some bulkier plugs may not work as well. This would be good for a teenager's iPhone or for someone who wants a case with more substance. It's a decent alternative to the Candy Sheer and a good option for someone wanting a thicker and stiffer version of that case.

If one must use a case, one could do far worse than this Belkin case. Belkin makes quality products, and their cases are no exception. It is obvious when inspecting this case that it would provide top-notch shock absorption, and even makes it less likely one would need shock absorption, because it improves ability to grip the iPhone.

The Gray/Navy case looks a little like gray/slightly purple. One can tell this pretty well from the pictures, especially using the zoom feature.

When putting the phone in, it seems best to put the left side in first, then push the top right corner in, and finish by sliding down the right side to the bottom right corner. When taking it out, reverse the process, taking out the bottom right corner, then up to the top right corner, then pull the rest of the phone out.

A reminder about charging: If anyone cares to look into the official Apple information on charging iPhones, they stipulate that "charging your iPhone while in certain carrying cases may generate excess heat, which can affect battery capacity. If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when you charge it, take it out of its case first." Which cases? Doesn't say, so better safe than sorry.
