This is a beautiful case and worth every penny. The ipod is a beautiful instrument deserving of a case of this premium quality. This case fits my 30 GB 5G ipod perfectly. I can see how it may be kind of tight for those who have the 60 GB ipod. I slip my ipod in and out of this case with no scratching issues whatsoever. While it is a little more difficult, I am now...

I got this case after reading tons of reviews for lots of different 5G iPod cases. This was one of the only cases not reviewed as being total crap. It's been an okay case, but I wish I had kept looking.

First of all, I have the 60GB iPod, and my ipod just barely fits in the case. I had to cram it in there pretty hard, and this causes the plastic over the click wheel to buckle a bit, which makes the click wheel a little hard to use. Not impossible, but hard enough that it's a little annoying. I imagine the case fits better on a 30GB.

Second, the case is open on the bottom, but the leather case is thick enough that I have trouble docking my ipod (on the actual dock- the cable method works fine) without pulling it out of the case a little bit.

I did check the ipod to see if it got all scratched up by this case and I noticed a few small scratches on the back, but nothing that I found really terrible. I should say that I have a white ipod and I'm not the kind of person who gets really worked up about scratches anyway, so perhaps a black ipod or a person more attuned to aesthetics would be less satisfied.

The docking feature when the case folds back doesn't work very well. it doesn't stand up very well. the button that clips onto the upper clip doesn't stay. This was one of the reasons why I bought it, and when it didn't work well, I was dissapointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the worst, but a far cry from the best, February 4, 2006
This review is from: Belkin Kickstand Case for iPod 5G, 5.5G (Black) (Electronics)
Eager to protect my newest iPod, I purchased this case from Wal-Mart for less than the Amazon.com listed price.

And it was still overpriced.

Let me get the two stars out of the way first; this case protects every part of the iPod, right down to the clickwheel. And while this could have been a problem, the wheel is still responsive through it. One star for that.

One half-star goes to Belkin for the idea of a case with a caribiner method of pants attachment. I can't abide an armband, and a belt clip is really hit-or-miss with the pants I'm wearing. A caribiner attaches to all sizes of belt loops, and that's a good thing.

The other half-star is for the prop-up design idea. Not having to hold the iPod to watch videos is a very nice idea, and they deserve a half-star for trying it out.

Now, the bad news. The case is very stiff, and getting the iPod to slide out so one can prop it out is a chore.

The caribiner strap (which has the button that snaps the case together in the prop-up position) feels very flimsy. Parts of the strap are already beginning to fray, and I've not even had the case open for 24 hours!

The headphone jack opening is extremely narrow, and only seems built to accomodate the Apple-issued ear buds. My Sony over-the-ears-style buds have to be constantly re-adjusted so they are not pushed out of the jack.

By the same token, a lengthy fingernail is required to dig into the case to hit the lock switch. My hands are fairly large, even for a 6'1-tall man, and the tiny opening for the button was cumbersome to work around.

As it stands, I'm going to use this case until my next paycheck, and then I'm going to buy a Rhinoskin case. This case is not meant for the long haul.

While it is a little more difficult, I am now able to work the click wheel just fine through the clear plastic protector. I love the way this thing hooks on to your belt loop. The ipod will hang upside down but that is so you can grab it and easily use it while it is connected to your belt loop. The kickstand feature is fabulous. Some people complain that it will not stay up by itself. That is because they have not figured out that the small strap that holds the ipod in the case buttons into the top half of the case holding it in place as a kickstand. Works perfect. I find no functional drawbacks with this case. Being made of fine grain leather it has a luxury fell to it and it smells great. Highly Recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but not complete crap either., April 3, 2006

I bought this case for my 30 gig video. You could call the case snug, which is a good thing in my opinion. The plastic over the click wheel tended to bubble up a little, so I cut it out after a few days. After some slight modifications, the case works alright.

My only real complaint is the buckle for the caribiner strap. It put a nice scratch right down the front of the screen, right in the middle. Other than that, the strap stays snapped down with the clips on the back and the caribiner is a pretty convenient handle. That scratch is more than enough to get me looking for a new case though. If you don't plan on ever taking your ipod out of it's case, then this cover would work. If not, keep looking.

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh. Still waiting for someone to make a decent case., September 17, 2006
This review is from: Belkin Kickstand Case for iPod 5G, 5.5G (Black) (Electronics)
I bought this case for my 30GB iPod video, and it seemed like a pretty good case...which is exactly what it is, a pretty good case. Not the best, not the worst, it does protect my iPod where it needs it (the screen, the clickwheel), but there are some MAJOR faults with this case overall.

1. My biggest complaint - why in the HECK would you put a METAL CLIP at the bottom of the case? I am completely baffled at the fact that there is METAL on a case that's supposed to protect a $300 piece of easily-scratchable METAL equipment. Also, the fact that it's on the bottom next to the docking port...well, that's just ridiculous. You have to slide the iPod in at the bottom, and every time I take the iPod out/put it in, I make sure to pull that metal clip far away from the iPod so it doesn't scratch it. I actually bought this case in a store, so the metal clip on the bottom wasn't easily visible; if I had seen it, I would never have bought it. I do use the kickstand "feature" with this case, and everytime I slide out the iPod to fold down the top portion, I just know one day that metal clip will make contact.

2. The clickwheel cover is hard to use at first - you really have to push down, but the case does protect the clickwheel. After a few days, you tend to get used to pushing down harder, but what's most annoying is trying to adjust the volume - if you don't take your thumb off in a straight upward motion, it will turn the volume back up/down, as a result of the plastic moving back along the clickwheel (because you have to push so hard to begin with, moving the plastic).

3. The sides at the bottom of the case are open, more than likely so you can pull the iPod out of the case easily. I don't know about everyone else, but I want a case that completely covers my iPod. I had checked out the skin-like cases, but I couldn't find one with a screen protector (!). As a general rule, I just don't like exposed areas that can be easily scratched.

4. I haven't had a problem thus far with particles/dust getting up in the case and scratching the screen - that's the one thing this case seems to do well.

Overall, my general feeling about this case is, "Meh." It's not the world's best case, but I'd stay away from it solely for the metal clip at the bottom (that is, unless you like your iPod scratched). It's something to put on your iPod while you look for a better case.

this product is bad, first it scratches the ipod when you try to get it in the case, you have to push down hard to get the click wheel to work, but most of all it scratches it a lot, its easy for things to get under the screen too. overall a bad case, don't buy

2.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, horrible execution, February 16, 2006
This review is from: Belkin Kickstand Case for iPod 5G, 5.5G (Black) (Electronics)
I wish I saw the reviews here before I bought mine. I totally agree with Byron and T-Diddy. Keep in mind some of these are just my theoretical deductions, and some are actual experiences. The material is top notch. The leather is very high quality. The positives end here. The back of my case is extremely stiff. When I bend it back to transform it into the "kickstand", I'm afraid I would break it. And because it's so stiff, the little snap button on the fabric strap is not strong enough to catch the top button. The case is too tight for a 60GB and since you have to slide the iPod out half way to dock or to do the kickstand, this whole kickstand feature is completely useless for me. People generally buy a case to protect their iPods, or at the very least, a SENSE of security. In my opinion, this case fails on this score. The carabiner is an awesome idea, however, the only thing keeping your iPod from kissing the ground at a good velocity is a flimsy fabric strap that in turn is held together by a simple snap button that isn't very strong (see my comment about it not able to hold onto the top button). And since the carabiner causes the whole contraption to swing while I walk, I find myself constantly paranoid that either the strap would break or the snap would undo itself. I know the Laws of Physics will prevail one of these days with this case. There is no peace of mind with this case if I do anything more rigorous than sitting or standing still. On the first day I used the carabiner for about 2 blocks before I had to put the whole thing in my jacket pocket. No iPod was damaged in the incident. The case was promptly returned.

Mine was listed as new but wasn't in packaging and didn't have the carabiner. the fit was good, 30gb video slides in easily and the 60gb is snug. the clickwheel protector is a little thick; would have been better if it had the clickwheel protector from their acrylic series. It would be nice to not have to unclip the strap to charge or sync. All in all an ok alternative to the hardshell cases.
