Basic & good case,

This review is from: Belkin Leather Folio Case for iPod touch 2G, 3G (Black) (Electronics)
I got this because I wanted a business-friendly iPod Touch 2G case, and didn't want something that would require two hands like a pull-off pouch.
Positives: It's black leather, slim, and has no unnecessary bulk. The case opens from the right and the iPod slides in from the left. The wrap around tab uses a velcro pad and is easy to open or close. Overall, this system keeps the iPod fully secure when closed, but the case can be opened or closed with one hand. The top on/off switch, docking port, and headphone jack remain accessible when closed. The entire functional area of the display is visible when the case is open. Negatives: The basic black look is undermined by the cut-off corner and a spacey line pattern on the trim band and inside. The decoration lines are subtle but not very attractive and not necessary. It's very easy to accidentally turn on the iPod by pushing on the lower front of the case. The naked iPod Touch 2G is much safer in the pocket due to its recessed button that requires a distinct touch. Fortunately the iPod shuts itself off after a few seconds so I doubt this will affect battery life. Overall: This is the most functional and professional case I could find. I'm happy with my purchase and would get it again. A lot of thought went into the design. The lower portion of the case should be reinforced to prevent accidentally turning the power on.

i purchased this about a month ago and have to purchase another case. i think its a decent case for the price. however, the velcro is terrible. it got very unruly and i had to trim it. now it doesnt even velcro anymore. also, the home button doesnt align with the home button indention at the bottom of the case so i have to push it to the right to make it work, which is quite annoying. the leather is nice and the suede inside is nice but i wish it was better quality.

The IPod Touch cover is great. It keeps it completely conceled. The only thing I would change is the velcro closer. The velcro has quickly become frayed and lost it's "sticky" ness. The company should have made it a "snap" instead of velcro.

How much can anybody say about a case?
I guess some people could go on and on but let me just say this - this case is sturdy, solid, looks nice, very functional for use with the iPod Touch. I did not give it 5-stars because it is just a tad bulky for my tastes (I like to keep this in one of my front pants pockets) and, when playing games on the iPod Touch, the device does have a tendency to move around in this case. However, that's not too big a concern as I only play games to pass time while waiting in line or for somebody. Having said that, the case does exactly what it was designed for and is not so bulky that it is unusable. Plus, I like the cover for providing extra protection for the screen beyond the screen protectors.

In reading other reviews, I noticed mention made of the velcro clasp being substandard. It is! However, a trip to Walmart or Target where you can get a "cheap upgrade kit" of industrial strength velcro strips w/close-tabs, is a fine fix. That aside, the case is perfect!! I have not found a leather case to compare. Soft leather, nice tight fit, exactly what is needed and nothing extraneous.

I just got my new iPod touch 4th generation and was hoping this case would fit it. Because it says it fits the 2nd and 3rd generation, I had my fingers crossed it would fit the 4th, and it did. I was so happy because I love the color and that it has the velcro closure. I had read so many things about magnetic closures causing problems with the ipod, I was glad to find a case that had velco. You won't be sorry with this case.

Elegant, but not functional,

The case is very elegant and well done.
Unfortunately there are some little defects: 1) The 'menu' button: there is a little hidden button in the case, right over the button of the iPod, that let you click on the button easily... well, too easy, as the button get pressed very often when you don't expect it. When you close the cover you have to be careful otherwise it'll click the button. Even the simple action of opening (pulling the velcro that locks the cover) end up clicking the button most of the time. If you put the iPod in your pocket, chances are that the button is pressed. This is quite annoying because if you run applications like Skype, when you click the button, the application terminates. so you are right in the middle of a phone call, you put your iPod in your pocket, and the button is pressed (and Skype exits...) 2) With the cover is very difficult to touch items that are located at the corner of the screen. Example: you type an email, and chances are that you are going to miss all the letter at the corner (i.e. 'q', 'p' in the US keyboard)... If you want to play games like tap tap revenge (where you need to tap at the bottom of the screen), you better remove the iPod from the case.

This cover doesn't isolate the main button at the bottom so any pressure on the case activates the button.

I like this. It's attractive and functional, and I really feel as if the iPod is protected. In fact I've dropped it a couple times since it's been in the case, and it's suffered no ill effects. I got the pink cover, so it would stand out among all the black stuff in my bag. The velcro will probably crap out eventually, but I'll replace it if it does.
I can use all the buttons, headphone jack, and even charge the iPod without removing it from the case. The thickness of the leather is a tad inconvenient at times, since it makes it hard to type or swipe to the extreme edges of the screen. If I have to do a lot of typing I take the iPod out, but that's not too onerous since I'm usually sitting to type. I'm not wild about the beige lining around the corner and edge of the cover, but I've gotten used to it. For the most part the cover is slim enough to slide neatly into bags and pockets, but the wrap-around strap creates a bulge that is difficult to get in and out of tight jean pockets. So, depending on how you carry your iPod, this might not be the most efficient solution. Sure is pretty, though, and if you tend to mostly throw your iPod in a bigger bag this may be a good solution for you.

Belkin rushed the new design,
By
This review is from: Belkin Leather Folio Case for iPod touch 2G, 3G (Black) (Electronics)
Okay, just got it in the mail today. The reason I ordered this particular case is because my girlfriend has the one designed for the iTouch 1st generation and hers is a really good case. Its nice leather and looks professional, it has a flap the covers the front face of the iTouch, and the velcro stays attached nicely.
This case (designed for the iTouch 2G) is no good. The velcro is very flimsy and holds on by a thread (which I believe someone previously mentioned). The area around the home button is covered with leather and has some kind of extrude underneath that makes it easy to turn on the iTouch if its stuffed in your pocket or a bag, thus potentially killing battery life. They should have designed it like the previous leather folio where the leather is cut AROUND the home button. I'm sending it back and sticking with my Speck pixel skin until they make a better leather case. |
