4.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Case, March 20, 2008

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Belkin Leather Folio Case for iPod touch 1G (Persimmon Orange/Bone White) (Electronics)
The very first case I purchased for my new iPod Touch was the DLO Jam Jacket with cord management. I ordered a noise-canceling headset about a week later, which made the added thickness of the Jam Jacket's cord management a pain. You couldn't use the cord management with this type of headset.

The Jam Jacket I purchased was black, to match the color scheme of the iPod. It picked up lint from my pockets and I simply didn't like it. It was too big for all but the basic outerwear pocket. It was lumpy and tacky feeling. I purchased it because a sales person said this would be better protection if I dropped it.

I started looking for a new case almost immediately. I finally decided that a leather folio type was more my style. I carry my iPod in my purse when I'm out and around, but also carry it in my coat pocket if I'm walking. So here are my pros and cons for this product.

PROS
1. Very well made and sleek feeling. It will slip in and out of pockets and handbags easily

2. How could you get better protection than this? If you dropped this, nothing is exposed like with the Jam Jacket. The screen is covered by the front flap until you open it.

3. The colors are very nice. The orange color is a more intense persimmon than the image shows. I have several wallpapers that complement this color scheme.

4. I don't know why this is so, but the accelerometer seems snappier now that it isn't encased in the Jam Jacket silicone. Why? I don't know. But there is a noticeable difference in the screen-aspect change.

5. Absolutely classier and more feminine looking. The silicone covers are not girly at all.

6. If you saw this you would think it was a little coin purse or something to hold business cards or a calculator, etc. You wouldn't think there was an iPod Touch inside. Perhaps a deterrent for iPod thieves?

7. I like it so much, I am going to look for a version that will fit my Nano.

CONS
1. Just a tiny bit of the Touch's right front edge shows when it's seated in the case - in the "window" portion. This is a real leather case, so getting the leather bent to cover it is probably an impossible task. It doesn't look bad. It fits fine, it's just not entirely balanced.

2. I'm a "sniffer" - meaning that I always have to sniff and smell the products I purchase. This one has a slight leather scent that is permeated with a chemical overtone. I am sure it will fade. It's one of those newly manufactured smells that will no doubt dissipate once it's out of the plastic packaging. It didn't give me a headache, so it's not too bad.

3. Which brings me to the packaging. Larger-than-needed clear plastic box, with another plastic molded piece inside. Way too much for this slim product - I care about the environment and hate to see this kind of indulgence. I would have liked to see a tiny black or white box made from recycled material- not plastic - to reduce both packaging and odor.

4. The picture doesn't show the matching leather strap that holds the folio closed. The strap is approximately 3/4 inches by 2 inches, double-layered and is attached with stitching to the inside front cover at the edge. The top layer is bone-leather, the bottom layer is a textured suede that is persimmon colored. It is well designed. On the back of the folio, a small square was precision-cut from the material and a bone-colored piece of velcro tab is inserted in it. This is really well executed. The velcro piece on the underside of the strap is matched to the persimmon suede color. They really paid attention to detail. Anyway, from the Amazon image, you would almost expect a closure that was magnetic, since no strap shows. One reviewer found this was an issue. But I think it is so well done that it does not add excess bulk. And I think a magnetic closure would damage the electronics of the iPod.

So there are two listings for this product - and the other listing is the one that shows the true color and the strap detail. Here's the other listing: Belkin Leather Folio for iPod touch (Persimmon/Bone)

This review is from: Belkin Leather Folio Case for iPod touch 1G (Persimmon Orange/Bone White) (Electronics)
When I received this case there was only one surprise. The color description says persimmon/bone, and the photo on amazon at the time showed the open case with it's orange interior. The current photo shows the outside, which is all white. Not a deal-breaker, but I thought I was getting an orange case with white accents and it's really white with orange accents. Either color combo is good for visibility, especially if you keep this in a large tote or purse. A black case could get lost in the Black Hole of Pursedom, but this case doesn't have that problem!

The fit of the case is excellent. It holds the Touch snugly enough that I'm not worried about it slipping out, yet it's still easy to remove when I need to. The Touch slides into the case's opening from the left side. The top and bottom have opening for the buttons/connections but the Touch can't slide out.

I can connect to the docking cable while keeping the Touch in the case. I don't have a docking stand, so I don't know if that would work. Also I have a kitchen radio with a dock/cradle, and not surprisingly I have to take the Touch out of the case to put it in. I wouldn't expect it to, though.

This case comes with a clear plastic film to stick to the screen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stylish, but prone to creasing and slipping, April 26, 2008

This review is from: Belkin Leather Folio Case for iPod touch 1G (Persimmon Orange/Bone White) (Electronics)
This product looks good, but is not entirely practical.

I have been using it for about a month now, and along the side of the case are many long creases, from having the case open most of the time. This looks pretty bad, and although I've tried leather cleaner, nothing gets them off. Also, sometimes when you are using it, the iPod slips to the left, making it difficult to use. Also, the home button can be quite difficult to press at times.

Anyway, moan over. The design of the case is fantastic; it looks good, feels good, and is essentially very practical. It fits in the pocket very well, and if you have a standard screen protector on, it covers the top and bottom of the front of the iPod, which are normally exposed.

Generally, this is a good case, but you could look elsewhere for a more practical option.
