1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality Manifests Over Time
I have bought three of these units over the past year to protect the telephone connections on a cordless phone and an Apple Airport wireless network base station (not using the protector's pass-through power outlet). Both the first and second protectors went inoperative after nearby lightning strikes...and they are acceptable losses considering the purpose and price of...

I live in the Colorado mountains at 10000 ft elevation. The house sits on a large rock outcropping just barely covered by dirt. Storms build here before moving out east to the plains. The rock outcropping is a great attractor of lightning. Before using the Belkin surge protector we lost many a phone and modem if we forgot to unplug the phone lines. We got hit with lightning last week, enough to rattle the windows, and the surge protector took the hit and protected the phone. I'm sold. I'm buying two more, one to replace the old one and one spare. Its a lot cheaper to replace the surge protector than the phone.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for phone protection, May 14, 2009

Update, September 2009: now Amazon's price for this has dropped even lower (it dropped from around USD$11 to USD$7), making it an even better buy, lower than other competitive similar products.
-----------------
We kept getting hits (nearby lightning, I suppose) that would mess up our telephones. After having to throw away a number of telephones with builtin answering machines and cordless units, I found this little unit.

It is cheap enough and small enough to be useful just to protect a phone line.

It's basically a one-shot deal, so we have to swap in a new one after each hit (only a few per year). For some reason, the electrical protection circuit doesn't get ruined by a hit, but the phone line protection circuit always does (the symptom is no dial tone). So even though the little light is still lit indicating that electrical protection still works, the phone circuit will go dead. Basically the phone circuit in this unit sacrifices itself, to protect our telephones!

That's why this unit is great, since we're only paying to waste a single electrical outlet, when all we really need is the phone line protection. Larger surge protector units, with 1 phone line and more electrical outlets, still lose the phone line after a hit, so it's way better to just stock up on these little 1-outlet units.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well built, April 29, 2009

This product is solidly built and comes with good written information. It also has 2 warning lights, one for power and one for surge protection. It also has a line for the phone cord. It plugs into the wall solidly and other items plug into it solidly. It comes with a generous guarantee, although you have to read the fine print to discover that if a given device (e.g. TV) does not also have separate surge protection for the cable, the warranty is void. No lightening strikes yet so I can't tell you how well it protects against surges.

I bought this to protect my garage door opener electronics. It works as advertised and is a good deal for the money.

One thing that should be made clearer is that it says it is rated for 1045 joules but that is the total protection for both the electrical power circuit and the phone line protection. It only protects to 885 joules for the power circuit while the phone line protection is 160 joules so it totals 1045 joules but that was not what I expected based on the labeling.

It still is a good deal for the money but I was expecting 1045 joule protection for the power circuit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the kitchen, January 22, 2010

Belkin makes quality surge protectors, and this product is no exception. It is compact, not obtrusive, and well made. For the money it provides more than adequate protection for small kitchen appliances like a toaster oven or coffee maker.

I have read reviews where people have also used this to protect computers and televisions. However, because those products are much more expensive and critical to me than my small kitchen appliances, I use heavy duty protection for them, namely the Belkin Home Theatre Surge protector (which I have reviewed on Amazon), which is so well built yet also so much less expensive than the comparable Monster surge protectors that the salespeople in the electronics stores are always pushing.

Bottom line: For small appliances I think this is perfect. For computers, televisions, dvd players, stereo systems, etc. I prefer something more substantial.

I use this surge protector in my do-it-yourself home theater setup. I bought two MasterCubes, one for my ceiling mounted projector and one for my subwoofer. Using these saved me from having to run long electrical connections to my main surge protector unit located in my component rack. Instead I was able to plug the projector and sub into close by electrical outlets.

This item is now being used on my refrigerator and I have had several power outs since I have used this plug since June 2007. So far I have been protected. I have had a electronic item destroyed due to power surge before when power was restored and wish I had used this type of plug in the past.

I needed a single outlet surge suppressor and this one did the trick. Although, the Monster Home Series LCD PowerProtect, 2 outlets, White (HS MP AVFL200) was actually less intrusive even though it has two outlets. The Belkin sticks out from the wall a little more visibly then the Monster. If appearance is an issue I would go witht the Monster. The Belkin also has a port for phone surge protection and the Monster has a cable type port.

seems to be the best value for a plug in surge arrestor. They provide good info on the package of the capacity of the device. small enough to be portable. priced to be disposable. easy to register the devices on Belkin website for warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for protecting Garage Door Opener, August 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Belkin MasterCube F9H120-CW 1-Outlet Wall-Mount Surge Protector (Electronics)
The logic board in my garage door opener went dead one day, most likely due to a power surge. Apparently, this is fairly common.

After I replaced the logic board, I followed the recommendations of many people and looked for a surge protector to protect the garage door opener. Since the outlet is on the ceiling, I needed something very compact which can stay on the ceiling without falling down. This unit fits the bill perfectly. It's also very inexpensive, and has the best joules rating (1045) compared to other similarly priced items.
