Eight Outlets with 3,000 Joules of Surge Protection

The Belkin Advanced Surge Protector allows you to power up to eight electrical devices using only one AC outlet. The surge protector features two large BlockSpace Outlets to accommodate large power adapters without blocking other outlets.

Rated to withstand a power surge of up to 3,000 joules, this surge protector uses complete, two-line AC protection specifically designed to safeguard your electronic devices. Oversized metal oxide varistors (MOVs) absorb excess electricity for increased protection.

In addition, a Surge Protection Indicator lets you know your equipment is protected, while a Not-Grounded Indicator warns you when your outlet is not properly grounded.

Two USB Charging Ports for Portable Devices

The Advanced Surge Protector features rapid, one-source charging for cell-phones, MP3 players, or any other USB-enabled device --no AC adapter required.

Heavy-Duty, Six-Foot Power Cord with Low-Profile Plug

A 6-foot cord allows you to keep the Advanced Surge Protector in an unobtrusive location while still having plenty of room to reach your devices. The heavy-duty design ensures optimal power flow, while a low-profile plug fits easily in tight spaces and behind furniture.

Recessed Power Switch for Easy Reboot

The large power switch features a recessed design, safeguarding against accidental shutdowns while making reboots easy.

Mountable, Damage-Resistant Housing with Sliding Safety Covers

A durable, damage-resistant enclosure protects the Advanced Surge Protector against fire, impact, and rust, as well as preventing dents and scratches. For secure installation, mounting holes allow the protector to be easily attached to walls, baseboards, or furniture. Sliding safety covers keep unwanted debris out of unused plugs and protect your children from harm.

Power-Cord Manager

A Power-Cord Manager located on the bottom of the surge protector lifts and locks to keep power cords neatly organized, ensuring they stay tangle-free.

$100,000 Connected Equipment Warranty

Belkin will repair or replace any equipment damaged by a surge, spike, or lightning strike while properly connected to the Advanced Surge Protector, up to $100,000. Any manufacturer defect in the surge protector is covered by a limited lifetime warranty. See complete warranty inside packaging for full details, limitations, and exclusions.

PROS:
Does what you'd expect, and less, with eight AC outlets and two USB outlets
One LED indicates that protection is in place against surges
One LED indicates that the unit is plugged into an improperly grounded circuit
Long, heavy-duty power cord
Built-in cord management device

CONS:
Using the special transformer sockets often blocks the USB sockets
Wrapping cords on the cord management device blocks the USB sockets
Inadequate USB power
The unit is larger than necessary
The unit is difficult to mount on a wall
It is expensive for what it is
The cord management device will not handle eight cords of any practical size

I have been looking forward to a unit like this, and I was excited to get one when I found it, but...

POOR PLACEMENT OF USB SOCKETS

After ordering it, I began wondering why it was arranged the way it was. For starters, what is that odd grey thing at the bottom? Well, that's for managing cords. Unfortunately, if I arrange the cords to wrap around it, they will end up being in the way of the USB sockets, making them hard to access. Similarly, they put two special sockets at that end that have extra space around them for plugging in transformers ("wall warts"), but using them often covers the USB sockets. And yet the USB charging sockets are the unique feature that you're paying the extra money for!

If they had put the USB sockets up near the switch, they would have been away from all the sockets and the cord management device, and never blocked by the larger AC plugs and cords. Too bad they did not make locating the USB sockets the priority in the design.

I have been on a bit of a spring mission to organize my home office space. Not just any regular organizing since I'm sure I would figure out a way to clutter it back up, but an organizing to the point that unless I put something new in my space, it won't be as easily cluttered. One of the main goals was to cut back on my power supply cords. Step one was switching from an AC powered external hard drive to a(n) USB powered external. I also had my Kindle and iPhone 5 plugged into outlets. Luckily, I hadn't even read a review on this surge protector. A local store had it on sale and I trust the Belkin name, so I just bought it there.

Lets get this out of the way, the cord management system is gimmicky, as others have said. I didn't even realize it was there until I removed it from the package. This is what you're going to run into and should be considered before purchasing: We're going to call the end with the logo, the top, the end with the cord management, the bottom. If you're going to use the two USB charging ports, you're not going to be able to use the cord management system. If you want to use the cord management system, you're not going to be able to use the USB charging ports. I'm not for sure if anyone explained the problem with the cord management system, it's on the bottom end of the surge protector. Since most cords come in from the side of the surge protector, in theory, it has very little use. You would have to do some cable bending to get them under the cord management system and still be able to plug them in. I'm not even for sure how you could fix this. Looks like you could maybe put a little plastic piece "in front" of each outlet, but if you did that, all of your plugs would need to be a similar size, so adapters wouldn't fit.

This does the job and the USB ports are very handy. I may be being slightly critical with 3 starts here, but one of my main purposes of purchasing this was to mount the outlet under a breakfast counter in my kitchen. The holes to mount are small and shallow and result in the outlet "falling" off when people unplug/plug in. I had to use 2-sided tape to help keep it from falling off. Not a game changer, I still like this outlet, but it poorly meets my needs for one of the biggest benefits I was looking to get from it.

I recently experienced a surge event in FL which knocked out one of these units. The surge protection seemed to function adequately, as my computer, laptop and peripherals did not suffer any apparent damage. I unfortunately called Belkin customer support, which I learned during the call is in the Phillipines. I inquired if the unit itself blowing out from a surge was covered under the warranty. This simple question was never answered, instead I was given the runaround by greasy operators who referred me back and forth btween tech support and customer service (that's an oxymoron or two!!!), each insisting that only the other could answer my simple question.
This level of so-called service or support is completely unacceptable.

Bought this since I planned on using a long 15 foot USB cable in my front room for phone charging. However, the USB ports on this thing are marginal at best. It wouldn't even charge my phone. I swapped that cable out for a 6 ft one, and it now barely charges. If you are thinking of purchasing this for the USB ports, just buy a surge protector and an external USB port charger. It's works better that way.
