5.0 out of 5 stars Good value in a line purifier/surge protector!
There are definitely higher priced models with more bells and whistles, but is that necessary for your basic hometheater setup? Probably not. If you want a good quality product to clean up your spotty electrical issues, this model does a great job.

1.0 out of 5 stars PureAV works but warranty does not fully cover your equipment
I purchased a silver Belkin PureAV PF30 at Amazon to protect my home theater equipment.
This is an overpriced regulator with nice features but after my experience with it I question if Belkin's electronics design is really protecting expensive equipment used for home theaters. Belkin claims you get a $350,000 Connected Equipment Warranty. Well, you have to be careful...

There are definitely higher priced models with more bells and whistles, but is that necessary for your basic hometheater setup? Probably not. If you want a good quality product to clean up your spotty electrical issues, this model does a great job.

I live in a house that was built almost 30 years ago. Prior to installing this item in my hometheather, I would get an annoying POP everytime I'd turn on a light in that room or a few other rooms in the house. With the PureAV 2 PF30, I have completely eliminated this problem. Also, my receiver doesn't cause speaker "thud" when powering up any more. For reference, I have a Samsung 50" HD 16x9 DLP, Sony 500W receiver, Bose speakers (with separate subs for front and rear), HD Cable box w/DVR, & Sony DVD player. It has no problem handling all this stuff without any apparent glitches during use.

I was skeptical initially about the value of this kind of product, but after using it for even a few weeks, I am convinced that a power line purifier is a necessary component to a home theater system. I'm considering something similar for my computers...

*****update***** February 20, 2012 - 6 1/2 years later. My home theater system has changed a bit (larger LED TV, Denon receiver and new Bose speaker system with a single powered sub-woofer) and requires more energy than in the past, but it continues to perform admirably!

5.0 out of 5 stars solid, sleek, effective, January 10, 2007

Summary:

Excellent product for the price as compared to the equivalent but more expensive and uglier Monster power surge protectors. Improvement in audio quality.

What I liked about this product:

- Less expensive for similar features as compared to other power surge protectors/power cleaners like Monster in the local stores

- Very well engineered - feels industrial strength as well as very aesthetic. Extremely sleek and compact - even the screws are perfectly flush.

- I could immediately tell the difference in sound quality from my speakers (treble clarity improved and sub-woofer output sounds cleaner and deeper). Not sure if I could tell any difference in picture quality on HDTV.

- The DirecTV signal works fine when passed through this unit and then connected to the satellite receiver - that allows the receiver/TV to be protected from any possible surges from the satellite input signal.

- Have not noticed any heating - it runs quite cool.

- Blends well with other home theater components. Much better than having an ugly box behind the home theater with power plugs sticking out vertically. Allows me to manage the power cords better giving a cleaner look behind the home theater.

- Sufficient (8) power output sockets for audio/video equipment.

One thing I did not like - no way to fully turn off all output power. It has a switch which allows one to turn off the "audio" components, but it keeps the video components on. I know this is by design to allow for example a recorder to do timed recording etc. But maybe there should have been another option to fully switch off the entire system when you are away. But this is a very minor annoyance.

Overall, I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to protect their expensive home theater / HDTV and get the most out of their system.

After receiving my Samsung 40" LCD TV, I was experiencing lines running from bottom to top and a loud humm in the audio. I was told by my cable company and by Samsung that it was because my house's wiring wasn't grounded and I would have to have my house re-wired to remedy the problem. Someone reading my review of the TV recommended a power conditioner. I bought the PF30 and it totally solved my problem. It was easy to set up as the plugs are all labeled. It's a heavy duty product - Thanks, Belkin!!

This is my first power conditioner and I had no idea before this purchase that poor power can have an impact on picture and sound quality. This power conditioner made a huge difference in the quality of my LCD TV picture. I have my cable tv wire running through the condition, also. Most of my channels come in brighter and clearer. Is it that the conditioner is amplifing the tv signal or is it the cleaner power? I don't know; I have not done an in-depth read of the owner's manual. Consequently, I have found one negative. I nolonger can get the QAM channels from my cable tv signal. I am only receiving the analog channels at this point. My quess is I'll have to manually program the QAM channels into the TV. I can't speak on the longevity of the product. I have only owned it for a short period of time. Now knowing what power conditioner are capable of, in particularly this model, I'm considering returning this one and purchasing an upgraded model. These things absolute work. This was a purchase I was unsure of its need in the beginning, but now I know never to go without one again.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm glad I did it, May 12, 2006

Didn't want to spend more than $40 for a surge protector and when shopping I almost went with a cheaper product, but then when talking to the AV salesmen I told him I would eventually upgrade to a plasma in addition to my existing AV equipment. He said I will probably wish I had purchased something for a bit more piece of mind b/c the plasma's are power hungry. So they had these on sale for $100 because the new models were coming in.

I'm glad I did. I feel better about my equipment being protected, especially when I get a plasma. As an added bonus, I really do notice the sound is alot cleaner. A friend of mine and I were debating and he didn't think my already sweet Harmon Kardon setup would have any improvement, especially because I didn't have any noticeable issues with speaker noise.

I hooked this up and noticed an improvement in sound. It wasn't an improvement like when I went from my Sony pro logic receiver from 1993 to my brand new Harmon, but it is definitely noticeable to me. Hard to explain, just more defined. I'll admit that I'm quite the sound snob so if you're not you might go with a good surge protector for less $.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well built, November 1, 2006

A nice looking unit for the price. It has options for protecting equipment using several different types of connections and is more substantial feeling then a surge protector alone. It might fit in a rack nicely, but may be a little small to stack outside of one. It has a nice "clean" look to it vs. a standard surge protector, which is nice if it is going to be in an area where it is visible.

In addition to this unit, I have a smaller 10 outlet belkin pureav isolator as well that looks more like the standard surge strip. This unit is also heavily built and substantial feeling. At half the price of the pf30 I ordered two more of those to use with set-ups were the protector visibility isn't that big a deal.

My signal isn't any worse then before I hooked up the PF30 and I want to say it may be slightly better, but I don't know if I can tell or not. I do feel much better having my equipment running through the unit as it does seem like it would provide the protection it claims vs. some of those lighter protectors. It also looks cool sitting by the TV. Actually cleaning up the sound and picture would be just an added bonus at the current price.

I have this console for protection of master bedroom 40" LCD Samsung 1080p HDTV and Denon surrond sound 7.1 home theater system. I have been very pleased with the improved picture and sound. Before hooking up to this console, I had a slight wave going across the screen. It is now gone as is the slight buzz from the sound system.

I also have 1-2 power outages every month from new construction in our area. The console has protected all of the equipment very well. Considering the price and free shipping through Amazon, I highly recommend this console.

Not to sound like everyone else, but I too never used one of these devices. I recently purchased a 56" DLP TV and didn't want to chance not getting the best picture possible. I looked at other brands (i.e. Monster), but the Belkin was so inexpensive I had to try it.

I was unsure how much of a difference it would make, but I was very happy when I saw what it can do. It's hard to explain exactly. The picture is crisper and clearer. I also like knowing that the signal and the power are being regulated. I have since recommended this to two friends...one has purchased it. He told me how much better his picture is. I don't think it's a fluke that this device is so highly rated by everyone who has tried it. As for the life span of this device, I think it will last and if it quits in a few years, I will go out and buy another one. It's still cheaper than paying top dollar for another brand.

This is my first power conditioner and if I ever needed another one, I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another one of these. These sell for less than a third of most other conditioners and it has the same functionality. A no brainer!
