Like others, I've been waiting for the availability for this keyboard case ever since the iPad Air became available. While waiting, I got myself the Logitech Ultrathin iPad Air keyboard as I really do need the physical keyboard because I just can't type anything more than a paragraph on the glass screen. So I finally received the Belkin QODE today and did a side-by-side test with the Logitech and I'm happy that I decided to wait it out instead of canceling the order.

This keyboard looks, feels and functions great. It has a solid feel like Apple's own keyboards and I'm sure that has to do with the uni-body aluminum construction. The key size is bigger than any others of its type with ample spacing. Belkin really did a great job laying out the keyboard properly. It makes the iPad Air so much more useful as a productivity tool.

Another feature that's really great is that it turns off automatically when you remove the iPad from the keyboard's slot and on when you place it there - a very nice feature compared to the on-off slider switch which you sometimes have to turn off and on again if the iPad has been moved away from the keyboard for a while.

The look of it is very nice as well - sleek, classy, and solid. It matches up very nicely with the iPad Air's industrial design. As another reviewer has said, it looks like something that the designers at Apple themselves could have designed. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase and feel that it was worth the long wait. If you really want to get the most out of your iPad Air, I definitely feel you have to have a physical keyboard and this is the best one I've had to date.

Just received the Belkin QODE Thin Type Keyboard and I absolutely love it. Quality is fantastic. Very solid. Bluetooth connects fast. Body is aluminum. Key buttons are plastic with nice tactile response. When iPad Air is placed into slot not only does the keyboard activate but the ipad is awakened as well. Ipad sits well in landscape or portrait position. All the keys work well; placement of keys is great. Besides all the dedicated IOS shortcut keys on the top row, there are three keys on the top row (in position 6, 7 and 8 from the left) that are used when ITunes Radio is open. Key six with the star means you can "like" the song. Key 7 with the X means you do not like the song. Key 8 with the + means you want to add it to your wish list. Well worth purchasing and the wait. Love it! It weighs about 12.5 oz.

I was all excited about this keyboard case, as the other ones I've tried were both bulky (slightly problematic) and had bluetooth keyboards that just didn't work as smoothly and consistently as I would need. So, I'd basically resigned myself to just typing on the on-screen keyboard for my iPad when this came along and rose my hopes again.

And I have to say, the bluetooth keyboard functionality on this is pretty excellent -- pairs easily, doesn't drain battery much on either the iPad or the keyboard, and most importantly, it actually works well as a keyboard. It is comfortable and stable to type on, the keys don't stick or stutter, and it holds up to fast typing speeds.

Unfortunately, the downsides are serious enough that they will keep me from using this device altogether. In part to save on battery life, there's no manual on/off switch on this bluetooth keyboard. I totally get their intent there, having previously worn a bluetooth keyboard battery down by forgetting to turn it off more than once, especially models that don't "sleep" quickly. Unfortunately, that means that you can only use this bluetooth keyboard when the iPad is propped up in the little slot, thereby weighting down a tiny rubber toggle that engages the keyboard. Why is that a problem for me?

1) The configuration simply isn't stable on anything other than a flat desk, whereas I'm often needing to type while sitting on a bus, on a sofa, etc. We take iPads out into the field in our work, and there's rarely a nice, neat, empty desk waiting for us when we need to type something in.

2) This keyboard case isn't a very functional case for me.

I have tried a bunch of keyboard/cases over the years. Most are collecting dust. Too big, clumsy, not easy to use.

I was hesitant to purchase this one but I was intrigued at the statements Belkin was making...thin, easy to use, etc. Amazon didn't have the gray one available, so I ordered directly from Belkin since they had it in stock.

When it arrived and I unpacked it I was impressed. It felt solid. It was easy to hold and LIGHT. Lighter than I had imagined. It is a no-brainer to hook up. Slip the iPad into the groove (landscape or portrait ... either one works) and press the pair button, select it in your bluetooth settings and you're done. There is no on/off switch. It turns on and off automatically when you place the iPad into the groove. Nice.

The keyboard feels great when using it. Almost like a regular keyboard. A few keys are not where you would expect them to be. So a minor complaint.

Another complaint if you will is that when you engage caps lock you have no idea it's on. Would be nice to have a light somewhere. Nor do you really know how much batter life you have. Though Belkin says it will last for months and months.

The iPad snaps to the hinge rather well. And when you close it, it feels solidly secure. I don't have any trouble carrying it around, nor do I feel the two will separate. There is a bulge under the top edge where I assume the battery is that gives me a bit of a grip and it also functions well to position the iPad at a nice level. I have no complaints about the way the iPad is positioned and among all the other keyboards I have used this is the best one for my typing away.

All in all it is a bit expensive but does an excellent job at creating a true laptop experience with an iPad. The trade offs are few and all things considered not enough not to consider this excellent product.
