Fast, Easy Three-Step Setup

The Belkin Surf N300 Wireless N Router has been designed for an easy setup. All you have to do is follow three simple steps: plug the Surf N300 into your modem, plug the router into the wall, and insert the included setup CD into your computer. And you won't have to tinker with encryption settings, since the Surf N300 comes with preconfigured wireless security settings.

To set up your network, the Surf N300 requires a computer with a Windows XP 32 (SP3 or greater), Windows Vista (32/64), Windows 7 (32/64), or Mac OS X (v10.5 or v10.6) operating system; an installed network interface card and TCP/IP networking protocol; Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari; and minimum 64 MB RAM.

3D Coverage for Your Entire Home

Featuring Belkin's powerful 3D Coverage technology, the Surf N300 provides robust, reliable coverage. It uses two antennas--one horizontal and one vertical--to achieve full coverage across two planes. This ensures a consistent signal, even when there are walls and floors between you and your computer. You'll be able to obtain a strong signal at all times, regardless of where you are in your house.

High-speed Performance with Wireless-N 300 Technology

Whether you're surfing image-rich websites, sending a flurry of emails, or instant messaging far-off friends, the Surf N300 delivers the fast speeds you need. The router uses 802.11n technology, which gives you speeds of up to 300 Mbps.

Self-Healing App Keeps Your Network Up and Running

The Surf N300 includes Belkin's Self-Healing Application, which analyzes your network and automatically detects and resolves any problems. These routine maintenance scans ensure that you're always working on the clearest possible wireless channel. And if the network does require your attention, a notification will appear on-screen.

Versatile, Energy-Efficient Design

Providing all the inputs and outputs you need to sustain a full online network, the Surf N300 features four LAN ports, allowing you to connect up to four wired computers for a complete network. In addition, the router's power adapter is Energy-Star certified. This helps to minimize your energy use, reduce costs, and keep your network green.

The Surf N300 Wireless N Router is supported by Belkin's two-year limited warranty and 24/7 tech support.

Great basic wireless router October 20, 2011
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
It's hard to get too picky about a router that costs around $30. It does a great job of taking your internet signal and broadcasting it to your house. It doesn't have the best range I've ever seen, it may not have advanced features like wireless printing, but it gets the internet to you anywhere in your house, and it has the basic features of a decent router like encryption and a nice web interface for setup. If you are looking for more, then go ahead and spend $100 and get a more full featured router, but I would say that for 95% of consumers, this router is perfectly fine. Wireless data transfer speeds for me were great, just as fast as my $180 Apple Airport Extreme. Don't listen to the haters, they are like the guys who buy a Kia and complain about poor 0-60 times. You get what you pay for but sometimes you don't need to buy the best of something to get good results. I have already recommended this affordable yet good quality router to several friends, and they've all been happy with it.

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I set up this router in about five minutes. Plugged it in, set it up with the included CD on my desktop, then installed the software on my laptop with the CD and I was good to go. Range is good, no issues in my house, the laptop works out in the backyard, no problem. This router is by far the easiest to set up that I've ever seen. I've been using it almost a month now and have experienced no problems. Highly recommended.

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
...not to mention my fundamental suspicion about of products labeled as "reconditioned (on the box) or "recertified" (on the Amazon listing)...especially when the manufacturer provides no information on what this means to the consumer.

I've been using wireless networking products for nine years, and remember well the pain that first generation 802.11 products inflicted on users. Happily, those days are gone. Even with the reservations I have about this product, it delivered basic wired and wireless connectivity out of the box within a minute of beginning the setup...a far cry from what the first 802.11 offered in 2002.

However, nagging deficiencies in the overall user experience of this router make it less than ideal for those with expansive connectivity needs (and especially if you use multiple wired ports on a daily basis). So while I'm not ready to turn over my regular heavy lifting networking chores to this router, I will retain it as a spare should my long running Netgear WGT624 router bite the dust.

Pros:
-relatively compact footprint
-quickly went from the box to basic wired and wireless connectivity
-allows initial configuration to be performed wirelessly (some routers require a wired connection for initial setup).

Cons:
-No visible indicator lights for the 4 wired Ethernet ports. All of my ports are currently occupied (with a desktop PC, a weather station, the bundled telephone adapter from my cable provider and a NAS connection). Being able to have rapid insight into the connection status activity of these connections is essential. Such feedback is absent from this router. You'll be leaning around the back to visually inspect which ports are connected, and still have no indicators of activity on those ports.

-The included setup and control utilities are --to say the least-- clunky and non-intuitive. I was prompted for passwords even after disabling them, and it retained the factory SSID even after I applied changes. Many basic functions (such as an attached devices list) were not readily available. I'm experienced at configuring routers, and found the menu and interface inferior to what I've experienced with other manufacturers.

-Belkin's support area is unhelpful and intrusive. From the homepage, only product searches are available, and the link to its support/customer service service area is inexplicably hidden at the bottom of the page. Once in the support area, you have to decide between "search for answers" and "ask a question". My question about this: What the heck ? BTW, the "search for answers" allows searches of knowledge base type content. If you choose the "ask a question" option, you'll have to drill down many layers of topical dropdown options AND provide an email address. Unacceptable. I never found the definitive answer to what either "reconditioned" or "recertified" meant relative to this product.

-The router's configuration utility indicated its firmware was current, while the support web site indicated a newer version was available. Which should a user believe?

-With only a single power/activity light, this has an overly spare appearance. It's also very light...it just doesn't feel substantial in any way.

Bottom lines:
--Is this a terrible router? No.

--Is this an acceptable router if you only need a single wired connection. Maybe.

--Is this a router to choose if you will be regularly connecting multiple wired devices to it ? No...unless you are satisfied with no visual feedback on the connection status of those devices. This complaint is not about fascination with blinkenlights; this is about providing fundamental information to the user in meaningful way.

For this price, I'm keeping it around in case my current router (free of the above shortcomings) stops working. But if your wired connection needs are as important as your wireless ones, you won't like the lack of feedback on the status of your wired ports.

Works flawlessly and recertification is nothing to worry about.
Sometimes recertified products can be a mixed bag. Fortunately in this case it is a non-issue as I saw no difference between this item and its packaging and a brand new version. Read more
