5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Splitter and Lets the Kids mix!
Can be used with multiple pod and headphone combinations. My son plugged in Disney and Crazy Frog's versions of a song, through 2 pods. He and I both listened to his mix, and we still had two ports available for more friends or MP3 players. Only has one MP3 jack, so to use more than one device at a time, you need a male-to-male plug (radio shack/target/walmart for...

Can be used with multiple pod and headphone combinations. My son plugged in Disney and Crazy Frog's versions of a song, through 2 pods. He and I both listened to his mix, and we still had two ports available for more friends or MP3 players. Only has one MP3 jack, so to use more than one device at a time, you need a male-to-male plug (radio shack/target/walmart for >$5). This is really cool for letting 5 kids listen at once. Great product. We'll see how it holds up over time, though the quality feels fine. Props to Belkin for making packaging that doesn't require scissors and sharp edges/sliced fingers to open...

EDIT: My son checked the packaging this morning before he threw it away and there was an extra male-to-male plug for connecting a second ipod wrapped up inside. The only way it could be better is if it made my coffee...

3 kids, one DVD player, 4,000 miles

Every other headphone adapter was for 2 people, I've got 3 kids. This worked great for the entire road trip-- 4,000 miles and not once did I have to say "Don't make me pull this car over!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful to play guitar with backing tracks, May 14, 2009

For me, the Rockstar name fits perfect to this product!
After minutes opened I connect my guitar amplifier headphone output and a MP3 player with a backing track. The result was simply great for the price.
Pros: cheap, small, no batteries, 3.5mm male-to-male audio cable supplied, nice design.
Cons: when you connect a headphone or another audio source, you can feel the audio volume droping down a little bit. That could be a problem for the Rolling Stones, for me it's OK

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what the teacher needed!, August 23, 2010

I just got this splitter and tried it in my classroom. I love it! I needed listening centers for my students and could not afford traditional listening centers, so I ordered just one of the Belkin headphone splitters to be sure it worked. This is perfect! For the price it's unbeatable. I had a couple dozen free pairs of earbuds from an airline that was giving them away. I plugged in 5 sets of earbuds to the CD player with the splitter and poof! instant listening center. I am online ordering 2 more! Yes, it's true that the volume decreased after the second pair of earbuds were connected, but the sound quality was perfectly fine for what I am using it for.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent splitter, but a lazy mixer., June 21, 2010

This review is from: Belkin RockStar 5-Way 3.5-mm Headphone Splitter (White) (Electronics)
Belkin has created a very nice 5-way splitter here, which was just what I needed in my setup. I have my PC and game consoles all running their sound into the same HDTV/monitor, and needed a way to control the signal distribution. I plugged this into the TV headphone jack and it does exactly what it needs to do, in sending the sound to powered external speakers, a gaming headset, and looping back into the PC through the Line In port. I was glad to find an approximately 2-foot male-to-male 3.5-mm cord in the package, so I didn't need anything extra in running sound back to my PC. When simply splitting the sound, I can find no cause for complaint. It preserves the quality of the signal going to all the devices and sounds fantastic.

However this device is also marketed as an audio mixer, of sorts, claiming you can plug another input device into it for simultaneous playback. It kind of does and kind of doesn't fulfill this role. When I attempted plugging an MP3 player into the mix, in order to add some music to what I was doing, the signal strength instantly dropped by at least half. This led to very low sound coming from both devices and was not satisfying. Experimenting with a couple of other input devices always led to the same result. If you're trying to avoid an expensive mixer purchase, this can get the job done, but you will need to turn both signal sources up to double their normal volume. For some devices this is no problem, while others will max their output long before reaching an acceptable level. Also, if you are considering plugging an unpowered microphone into this, be aware that it will not function properly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, but not for professional use..., February 16, 2011

Another working product from Belkin. Just what I needed in fact...

Please note:

-You MUST make sure everything you plug in or out of this device is FULLY plugged in or out because a half-plugged in cord may reduce a stereo sound to mono.

-Also make sure all plugs are 3.5 or adapted to this size.

-Having lots of headphones plugged in will reduce the volume because the signal is being split.

-More input devices (iPods, computers, radios) means nosier, buzzyer sound quality because all the signals are clashing into each other.

Basically, it's awesome for entertainment use; and when I showed a girl what I had just bought, she basically went into hysterics. Like I said, it was just what I needed.

Nice selection of materials and strong robust design. Belkin makes great products and this is one of their best.

Clean stain resistant materials, but the important part is that this splits up to 5 outputs without sacrificing quality. I bought another brand form a popular depot and when I connected two devices I found that the signal was cut from stereo to mono. I didn't get a signal in the right ear...

Wasn't more expensive that the black item that gives half the output. Put your money where your ears are and get the right tool.

As a teacher, I use this little splitter for a listening center with a tape recorder and/or a CD player. It works great, and only $8!

I love to take this on road trips with friends or whenever there is an outing. Being in today's day and age, iPods and music are an essential for travel. Friends always want to share music, but we were always limited to only a share between two people; yourself and one other. With this 5-way splitter, there could be a whole backseat of children listening in silence to the same song. It even comes with a short auxiliary cable as a bonus! The only problem I found with this is the sound quality. Though with each port being connected, the sound does not collectively reduce in quality, it does have an overall volume reduction in sound. Music seems to be softer. There seems to be less bass. This isn't a big issue for me because unless you are recording in a studio needing to hear high quality sound, this is a friendly gadget. You won't need to pay so close attention to details when you're just trying to listen to music with friends. Reduced volume for five people totally beats sharing earphones between two. Innovative product and highly recommended!
