Belkin Screen Overlay Protector for Zune 30 GB (Clear)

I was expecting, when I ordered this, a package of those thin, plastic, sticky film screens, like you see on Palm Pilots. However, I was really impressed that this is much more durable, sturdy plastic that's not at all thin. It really feels like it'd offer a lot of protection against not only the minor scrapes, but the big scratches. I could envision taking a key and running it up and down the screen with this plastic protector on it, without damaging the screen underneath at all.

I'm also impressed, with as thick and durable as this is, it does not impact the screen quality in the slightest. It's still crisp, clear, and undistorted. In fact, when it's in place, you can barely tell that there's anything covering the screen at all. Very nice! Applying it is quick and simple, though I suggest to those who buy this, instead of relying on your fingers to flatten this along the screen (as the instructions suggest), use your driver's license or a credit card to apply this as you would wallpaper. That ensures a quick, easy, and most importantly, bubble-free application (however, in mine, there are some very small bubbles in the four corners, and along the edges... Try as I might, I can't get them out, but they don't catch on anything and you don't notice them at all when the unit is turned on).

One thing I will say, is that $10 seems a little steep for one wet cleaning wipe, one dry cleaning wipe (the polisher) and one screen. I found it elsewhere for about $7, which still seems a little much to me, but hopefully, I won't need to buy these frequently so I can kind of forgive the price.

Addition June 18, 2007 - I still have the original plastic screen cover on my Zune. While there are some minor scratches on the plastic screen cover, the screen is still perfect. Even with the minor scratches on the screen overlay, the screen is completely viewable and unobscured, and still firmly attached, inspite of my regular (and often less-than-gentle handling of my Zune). 5 months after initially applying this, I'm still far from needing to replace it. I'm far more willing to forgive the price of this product, considering how long it appears to be lasting. :)

Addition January 6th, 2010 - I still have this protector on my Zune screen. It is scratched, but the screen underneath is perfect and the protector is nowhere near needing to be replaced. And yes, I'm very cruel to my Zune and use it almost daily, but it's still doing its job. This was a fantastic purchase for the Zune.

Addition January 30, 2011 - Still use my Zune daily, still have the originally reviewed screen protector on the Zune. It's scratched, not to a point where it's impacting the visibility of the screen, the screen underneath is still like new, and the screen protector is still on there tight.

The picture displayed on the Amazon website and on the packaging clearly shows this overlay to cover the entire front of the Zune. This is not the case. It does cover the screen, but that is it. It does NOT cover or offer protection the buttons or anything outside of the screen.

That said - I much prefer this, anyway. It includes a wet and dry cleaner to help the user insure a clean surface when affixing the protector to the screen. Once in place, the protector was almost imperceptible, and it did not distort the image as I have seen some screen protectors do on other devices.

Highly recommended. Just know what you are getting is screen protection only.

This is just a screen protector (not a whole front side protector). Whatever you do, when installing, don't get ANY dust or fingerprints on the "sticky" side or the screen protector is worthless.

However if you managed to get it on without the above (as I did) - it fits perfectly onto your Windows Zune - it doesn't overlap at all. It doesn't even look like a screen protector is on so it looks 100% natural.

A+ to anyone who travels a lot or can't keep a screen unscratched. You can't beat the price.

I bought this on June 15, 2007, arrived 3 days later. The screen protector is nice but the method Belkin wants you to put it on is not so easy. first of all, you can't touch the sticky side, no matter what. It will trap dust and fingerprints and it WON'T come off. I tried washing the overlay with the wipes they came with and it got worse. So then I washed it in really hot water and it helped a little. Even after washing it in water, the sticky side was still sticky and stuck on my Zune correctly. However pretty much everywhere you put the overlay on the Zune there will be dirt/particles in the air, and so usually there will be some dirt trapped under the screen.

I know someonw who used the ShieldZone screen protectors, and they are much better at protecting the screen, and even though they're harder to put on, if you mess up you can reapp[ly it with no problems. With this Belkin thing, I messed up and now theres a ton of dirt trapped under my screen and a few air bubbles too. With the shield sone theres none of that because of its type of surface; it's not a hard plastic sheet like this Belkin, but its more like a stretchy rubber type of material. Apparently the type of material was made for the US Army to protect their helicoptor blades.

One advantage of the Belkin though, is that is is very clear and no one will notice you have one on your Zune, iPod, PDA, whatever. (unless you're like me and have a ton of dirt under it)

good luck with w/e you choose. ALso, if you chooose the Belkin, install it somewhere where its steamy, like a bathroom after a hot shower, since there is less dirt in the air when its hot and steamy and humid.

The Zune screen overlay is a great product. It fits the Zune's screen perfectly and once it's on you don't even know it's there. I highly recommend this product for any Zune owner who wants to protect its 3" screen.

although the zune is rock solid and pretty indestructible, the screen is a weakspot. I wish this covered the entire zune, or at least the crack between the screen and silver metal. It is invisible, no one notices it is there, easy to apply but I have 1 little bubble in it. It comes with cleaning clothes that work like a dream! no kidding, I saved the dry one for later use because its big and really nice. Recommended.

The clear overlay is very clear. It doesn't distort the picture or color. However, be very careful when removing it from the backing sheet because you don't want a finger print on the sticky side. It's pretty easy to apply and make sure the screen is very clean otherwise dust might get trapped on the stickky side. All in all, I would say that it is very good product.

This is the best screen protector, ever. It perfectly fits the screen, doesn't distort the image like other screen protectors and is absurdly thick, which makes it really easy to apply. A word to the wise, however, don't bother with this product if you're completely incompetent, such as some of the folks giving it a negative review.

You will have an excellent result if you follow these simple instructions:

1) Clean the screen throroughly with the supplied wipes.

2) Do not, under any circumstances touch the sticky side of the plastic.

3) Line it up and apply it right the first time.

If you're confident you can adhere to these rules, this product is for you. It's fantastic.

It is thick. It will protect the screen. It does create a film that decreases my clarity by about 15%. I thought I was missing something so I removed the protective device and it was crystal clear. Put new protector on and clear, but not crystal. It'll do.

it serve its purpose. i think that anyone who get this product will be more than satisfied with it's quality. it's a good buy.
