Product Description

Style: iPhone 4/4S

Find the best station for your FM Transmitter—with a little help from your iPod Touch or iPhone’s GPS.
Now you can listen to your iPod Touch or iPhone music through your car stereo and quickly find the best FM station with the help of your iPod’s GPS system and location-based user feedback. TuneCast Auto Live combines ClearScan Technology with Belkin’s ClearScan Live iPod Touch/iPhone app to provide the best FM station recommendations wherever you drive.

The Only FM Transmitter with GPS-Assisted Station Locator
TuneCast Auto Live is the only FM transmitter with GPS-assisted scanning, for the best audio quality for your drive. The ClearScan Live app is available free through iTunes—just download and launch the app from your iPhone. You’ll get the best FM scanning technology at the push of a button, and station recommendations from other TuneCast Auto Live users in your area based on your GPS coordinates. You can also contribute to the quality of ClearScan Live's recommendations by rating how well stations work where you are.

Control at Your Fingertips
Control your FM transmission and music seamlessly from your iPhone screen—no need to fumble with separate FM buttons. ClearScan Live lets you display the current FM frequency and control the transmitter directly from your device.

Don’t worry if you don’t have an iPod Touch or iPhone—TuneCast Auto Live also works with iPod Nano and Classic. ClearScan Technology lets iPod users scan for the best FM frequency without an app. TuneCast Auto Live’s high-contrast backlit display lets you see the station clearly, and the tactile buttons make it easy to control.

TuneCast Auto Live also has two programmable preset buttons and a PRO setting for optimizing audio and boosting volume.

Arrive Fully Charged
The dock connector charges through your car's 12-volt lighter outlet to keep your device fully charged while playing.

I had the item for about 2 months and then it just stopped working.

So I could not use the tape deck transmitter and the car was made before the auxiliary option was standard in cars.

I've had a radio transmitter for nearly a decade that I've used on the same station in the same city.

I was a little hesitant to purchase this item after reading the mixed reviews. I was very pleasantly surprized. It arrived quickly and was easy to use. I think the people that have had problems with this FM tuner live in a congested area with lots of Fm interferance. I currently live in Montana where there is lots of open space and empty frequencies on the radio. I did use this on several trips to Calgary, AB and had little problem with it. I did have to retune the Fm station a couple of times to get rid of static but thats to be expected when traveling. The sound quality is excellent. I love the GPS frequency locator so I dont have to hunt for an empty setting. I think this is a fantastic option for people who dont have a USB plug in their vehicle. The price on Amazon is less than 1/2 what I saw it in stores for! No regrets.

Upon initially using this, I wrote it off as garbage on account of the constant interference. What seemed like a decent station would change each time I turned a corner. The next day, I researched the model on the internet some more and discovered that I should not have been using the Clear Scan feature. It doesn't do a great job of finding clear stations. Instead, I programmed a couple of truly clear stations into the memory options that I researched on Radio Locator [...]. Now, I can get a clear sound through the radio, and the quality is very, very decent.

Regarding volume, I agree with other reviewers who note that it's not very loud. I fixed this by two means. First, I adjusted the volume of my entire itunes library. To do so, click on "songs" and select all (open-apple + A). Right click, and select "get info." On the "Options" tab, slide the bar over to "100%." Now, each song will be louder, no matter where you're playing it from. Super easy!

On my iPod touch, I went to "Settings" and then "music" to get to the equalizer. A number of options listed will be louder than the default.

Bypassing Clear Scan by finding the best stations on my own and adjusting the volume took care of all my initial complaints. I love it now. It's certainly more cumbersome than having an aux jack, but this works well for me in my current car. I drive a 2007 Accord with no visible external antenna, and I have used it all over Wisconsin, Minnesota, northern Illinois, and northern Indiana. It doesn't work in Chicago because there are no open stations there, but it didn't take me long driving away from the city to use it again.

Certainly worth the money.

After reading the reviews at Amazon, I ordered this unit in order to expand my music selection in the car using my iPod. I was immediately disappointed in the weak signal and occasional interference. While the product appears to be solidly constructed and has some great features, the radio volume needs to be set at around 65% just to hear it. The Clear Scan app is somewhat useful for finding dead air, but still limited. I set my stations manually.
I would not make this purchase again.

-- Update / March 2013 --

A few weeks ago, the TuneCast developed a short in the wire that caused audio to drop out. I contacted Belkin about a replacement but their customer service phone number is absolutely no where to be found on their website. I decided to try "chat support" and that was a nightmare. The representative couldn't understand what a "short" was, and said I should contact Apple. ::bangs head on desk::

While it lasted, it worked great. However, if you are in need of a warranty replacement, best of luck--Belkin's customer service department was of no use or help. I am in the process of finding another FM transmitter for the iPhone made by a different company. I was not impressed with how long this device lasted--just over a year.

Dropped from 4/5 Stars to 2/5 stars for poor product reliability and quality. Your mileage may vary.

The tape deck in my car finally died so I needed another way to listen to iPhone through my car stereo.

Some observations: I bought this while knowing full well it was not going to sound as good as a full Aux-In port (which I lack) or Cassette adapter. However, the device works remarkably well with slight interference. Interference from overhead power lines seems to be the biggest annoyance. The only method I have found to avoid this type of interference is to place the transmitter (the little box in the center) as close to the center of the car (rather than under the radio), and close to the carpet.

Example: I have mine plugged into the cigarette lighter in the dash, the receiver box is resting on the floor somewhere between the seat and center console, and the phone sits in my cup holder.

My sister purchased this for me after doing a lot of research on fm transmitters that would work with and charge both my iPhone 4 and my old black and white iPod. I would have got the Monster again, I had two of those in the past and they worked great, but they are not compatible with the iPhone. This one definitely got the best review out of the ones that met my requirements. Unfortunately, it did not work well for me at all. No matter what station I used, there was always static and I had to change the channel every few minutes. We ended up returning it for the Griffin RoadTrip, which works great. If it helps, I live in the NY metro area.
