5.0 out of 5 stars Great wireless card, January 5, 2009
This review is from: Belkin Wireless Express Card N1 (Personal Computers)
I purchased this card as a last resort attempt to cure my wireless connection. We have a 2 family house with access points on the 1st and 2nd floor, it is not an overly large house but try as I might I could not get a consistent signal in parts of the house with the built in LAN card on my Gateway laptop. I moved the routers, tried different antennas, downloaded updated drivers, even bought a new router for downstairs, but would only get 1 or 2 bars in the living room, with multiple drops. As a last resort I thought, why not disable the on board wireless and try a wireless card?

My laptop does not have a PCMCIA card slot, so I was limited to wireless express. This was the least expensive card I could find.

All I can say is, it works great. No drops, strong signal even outside. For me this was a great purchase. On my Vista laptop I did not have to install any software it used the Windows software and was a turnkey fix.

5.0 out of 5 stars Piece of cake with Vista..., November 14, 2009

We have an HP dv6000 laptop with vista Home Premium that had the typical wireless card malfunction that you see all over the internet... More hassle than its worth to replace if yours is out of warranty which ours was.
This was a perfect option for us. Didn't plug up one of our USB ports, we never use the expresscard slot anyway, and it has a fairly low profile when used. Much less than a USB antenna anyway.
I am pretty tech savvy, but I don't think it was necessary in the least. Follow the directions that come in the box, and you should be up and running in 15 minutes.
Functionality is great; our b/g router handles it just fine, and we are able to pick up wireless points when we travel also.
Buy with confidence.

4.0 out of 5 stars Its a good cheap card that works quickly and installs easily, December 29, 2008
This review is from: Belkin Wireless Express Card N1 (Personal Computers)
My father in laws HP laptop lost its built in card somehow. No matter what I did it would not work, figured it was toast. I also figured it would cost more than $100 to ship it off and get it fixed so decided to try this one because the linksys expresscard cost almost $100. This installed quickly on an XP laptop. The software started auto and installed quickly. Inserted the card and it was recognized and found my wireless network. Haven't checked throughput but it appears to be as fast as what I'm getting out of my Dell laptop with builtin wireless. Happy with the item. I am sure it will never come out of the laptop so the lacking case is no concern for me. I am not a great tech, but with this install anyone who can open the box could install the item. That means a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple install on Vista laptop, January 6, 2010

Purchased this card to replace the internal broadcom card on my HP DV9000 laptop which just stopped working. Just followed the quick install guide instructions.

1. Install driver from CD
2. Insert card when instructed
3. Reboot machine and search for wireless network.

Works well, even upstairs through brick walls I'm getting over 100Mbs connection.
My router is a D-Link DIR-615 running in mixed mode (n & g).
My laptop is running Vista 32-bit Sp2.

Have noticed that the laptop will not go to sleep but this could be a bios or setting issue that I'll look into.

2.0 out of 5 stars No 5.0 GHz, Only 2.4GHz, May 10, 2010

This card does not support the "optional" 5.0 Ghz spectrum, only 2.4GHz. However, to fully realize the benefits of 802.11n, 5.0Ghz is required. Also, because it runs on 2.4GHz, your system will likely be competing for bandwidth with other computers and wireless phones around you, which can seriously degrade performance.

Surprisingly, this limitation is not noted either on the box or in the manual. In fact, Belkin doesn't directly address it in the Troubleshooting section, instead directing one to contact Technical Support. Personally, I find this sneaky.

To be complete, I will say that it runs fine on 2.4Ghz and was easy to set up. But I really wanted the traffic separation that 5.0Ghz allows.

1.0 out of 5 stars Customer service is horrible, May 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Belkin Wireless Express Card N1 (Personal Computers)
This turned out to not fit the computer I bought it for. So I contacted the company to see about returning it. They said they could only do that if the package was unopened. So I asked them how I was supposed to find out it didn't fit without opening the package. This is a wifi card, not a game or something that I could copy. So after I leave a bad review I suddenly have a return code in my e-mail from them. Now it has been nearly a month since I returned the item. They still have not returned my money, or given me a credit, sent me an e-mail, I have not heard from them at all. I will never shop with Digitalet again.

From looking at some of the other reviews, I was a little concerned with how tight it would fit. No worries. It fits tight and works great!

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective Product, April 23, 2009
This review is from: Belkin Wireless Express Card N1 (Personal Computers)
It made my wireless connection much slower than the built in wireless card in my laptop, to the point where it just disconnect on me. I made sure that my laptop was only using the Belkin Expresscard and it still would not give me speeds anywhere near N1 like it's supposed to.

Also, the .exe file needed to run Belkin Wireless Networking Utility was missing in the software I received along with the expresscard.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Performance with this N1 Express Card, February 1, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Belkin Wireless Express Card N1 (Personal Computers)
I use the Belkin N1 Wireless Router which has excellent range and speed. I purchased this card to increase the speed and range on my HP Laptop (Pavillion dv6000)with Vista. I worked with this card and software for several hours and was unable to come close to the throughput and range of the Broadcom built-in wireless g WLAN adapter on the laptop. The performance was very poor and I returned it.
