The Belkin High-Speed Wrls. G Router works excellent as a cable modem wireless router, but not as a DSL wireless router. I have DSL, on my office and it doesn't work properly, I cannot expereience high speed internet because the message that shows up on the wireless computer was "Low Connection" no matter where was the router ubicated, I had to buy a Netgear one and was perfect. However I put the Belkin wireless router in my house where I have Cable modem connection and works awesome! The laptops computers works twice as fast and properly when they go online, even from a further distance than the Linksys wireless router I had before without loose the connection. I have discover that the Belkin wireless Router is designed specially for cable modem connection but have technical problems with the DSL Protocols from providing companies, so in clear words, this router is perfect for cable modem connections but a nightmare for DSL.

I have a Belkin 54G router and it was working fine until a couple months ago. It started sporadically losing its settings and reverting to factory default settings, i.e., no internet connection. When I would try to restore my saved settings it goes through the restore process as if successful. But, upon reboot it still has the factory default settings which forces me to manually type the PPPoE and security settings in all over again. I have reloaded the firmware, powered it down, rebooted it, and manually reset it to factory defaults all with no improvement in this issue. This has happened about 10 times over the past couple of months. I emailed their tech support twice describing the issue and received a form letter response that took about 4 days and didn't address this issue at all. When I replied and advised them that the form letter was unresponsive to the issue I got a slightly modified form letter back another 4 days later which again wasn't helpful... extremely poor tech support. I like to get to the bottom of things instead of just buying new, but it seems I'm at the end of my rope with this router. I will most likely be buying a Linksys to replace it.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! IT INCLUDES A DETAILED MANUAL..., March 18, 2006

(REAL NAME)
I originally bought the Linksys WRT54GX2 MIMO router. After struggling with the firmware bugs, poor quality, and lack of documentation, I switched to the Belkin HSM router.

The automatic setup had trouble detecting my Internet connection. Fortunately, Belkin ships a detailed manual with its product. It guided me through setting up the modem. I never had to even call the customer support guy in India.

Within about 20 minutes, the router was up and running. I have two wireless and one wired computer on my network. The performance is phenomenal.

If you want headaches, buy the Linksys MIMO. If you want something that works, stick to Belkin.

1.0 out of 5 stars I'd rather poke my eye with a sharp stick..., October 12, 2006
This review is from: Belkin Wireless G Plus Router (Personal Computers)
...than continue to deal with this peice of junk. The thing gave me nothing but headaches, and I'd give it NO stars if Amazon would let me. Some of the issues I encountered were...

a) It is permanently stuck on one specific network address (192.168.2.x). If you want to change it to anything else, the thing stops working. It simply reboots over and over, forcing you to reset to factory default and lose all your settings.

b) when you instruct it to download the latest firmware, it stops working. It simply reboots over and over, forcing you to reset to factory default and lose all your settings.

c) Backing up the settings you gave it is a simple matter...but if you attempt to restore the settings you backed up, it stops working. It simply reboots over and over, forcing you to reset to factory default and lose all your settings.

d) Every so often, it decides to stop working on its own. It simply reboots over and over, forcing you to reset to factory default and lose all your settings. I suspect it's trying to automatically download the latest firmware according to some schedule, but I'm not sure.

e) if you're an advanced user, you'll run actoss another snafu- don't use this with any Windows 2003 servers- the security port it uses for its configuration is the same port Active Directory uses for authentication. It is hard wired into the router and cannot be changed, so anyone who tries to log onto a Windows 2003 server will receive a Belkin configuration screen instead.

If you're looking to buy one of these crummy things, unless you happen to like it that your router stops working, rebooting over and over, forcing you to reset to factory default and lose all your settings, walk right by it and get a Linksys instead.

Piece of %$#@&!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good and Reliable Alternative Brand Solution, February 14, 2006
This review is from: Belkin Wireless G Plus Router (Personal Computers)
So far, I've purchased 9 of these routers for home users and have to admit at $60 they're a little overpriced but if you can pick them up for less than $40. They're a good and solid investment. So far...none have failed and the CD install makes it easy for any Luddite to install.

It's not the most feature rich unit out there but it is reliable and the firmware appears to be compatable with all DSL provides and Comcast Cable.

As with any piece of equipment, you may have to upgrade the firmware and alway's check the DSLReports.com Hardware forums for any possible compatability or functional issues with your specific provider before purchase

5.0 out of 5 stars Wireless Brother, October 6, 2005

I have used the hardwire version of this Router and have found the unit to be as good as any of the other popular wireless routers. The best thing about these Routers is that they have an easy to setup interface but you need to have a Modem with Ethernet or else you are stuck. There is no USB in a router (nor should there be) and so you must have a ADSL modem with Ethernet to get into the routing scene properly. I think setup of the router is about ten minutes once out of the box, however you could spend a long time learning everything the bundled software of this router has to offer like Lan Settings, DHCP client lists, Wan connection types, DNS, Mac addresses, application gateways, virtual servers, client IP filters, mac address filtering, DMZ, Wan ping blocking, Security Logs etc. How much you want to learn routing is up to you, but this box is like a mini-pc that shares your ADSL to any PC that has an ethernet in. Great box and lots to learn if you want.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Belkin Wireless G Plus Router (Personal Computers)
I've had great success with Belkin wireless products in the past. I've installed several for friends and everyone has been very satisfied. My lucky streak has ended with this device.

Setup was not successful with the CD. I got things working through the router's web interface. I always feel a bit uneasy about equipment that starts working for no apparent reason. Once up, the router worked great for wired computers but has a habit of dropping the wireless connection.

I updated the firmware which was problematic as well. The "Update Firmware" shortcut on the web interface connected me to what I later discovered was an outdated file that the router would not accept after multiple attempts to update. Had to go to the support website and download the updated firmware there. Come on Belkin, that's just plain sloppy. Had no problems updating with that version.

Wireless continued to be problematic.

I hate to do it, but I'm sending it back.

4.0 out of 5 stars Performs well but watch the airspace, February 3, 2007

This review is from: Belkin Wireless G Plus Router (Personal Computers)
I found the Belkin trivially easy to set up, just using the web browser-based interface. LAN and WAN work perfectly both for Windows and MacOS machines.

The one caveat: for the first week or so the router hung up at least once a day. Couldn't even access its browser interface page; had to kill power and reboot to get it going. I finally put the Belkin on a couple half-inch high "feet" to improve airflow, and since that time have not had a single crash.

So, overall a solid performer. I still miss my USRobotics router, and heartily recommend that unit as well, but the Belkin is a decent choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless Performance even to my Playstation 3, June 18, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Belkin Wireless G Plus Router (Personal Computers)
I bought this to replace my Belkin B router. This had to be the easiest switch in my life. I just unplugged my old router and powered this up and I was up and running. I have 3 laptops and my Playstation 3 all working off this and they all run without any problems. Don't hesitate to purchase this. I've seen many routers in my business and see Belkin as one of the best for the money. My signal speed increased dramatically over my B router and is faster than 802.11g. It also Complies with 802.11g standards and is also backward-compatible with 802.11b products.

My main reason for updating my router was because of the new Playstation 3 update which now allows your playstation 3 to connect to your pc to view and play all media stored on your pc. With my B router I found some videos would hesitate while being transmitted to my playstation. Now with this router the media streams perfectly.

It also Includes advanced security features such as WEP and WPA all for approx 50 dollars you can't go wrong.

Love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy with Sweet Performance and Excellent Security, November 12, 2005
This review is from: Belkin Wireless G Plus Router (Personal Computers)
Setup for the router took about 5 minutes. 3 levels of security are built in. Fast, reliable connection (so far I've never had the router drop out). The range seems excellent too. I live in a solidly built, stone home in Europe and I can access the router from any room in the house on my notebook. A nice feature that enhances security is the MAC address filtering feature that allows you to set up a list of "allowed" clients that can connect. I highly recommend the product for any user, novice to expert.
