5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and easy to install, December 19, 2006
This review is from: Belkin Wireless Network USB 2.0 Adapter N1 (Personal Computers)
Since this was my first step into wireless computing, I was a little anxious. I had nothing to worry about. The Belkin adapter comes with a CD that walks you through the driver and hardware installation process.

The USB adapter has a stand with an adequately long cable, or you can plug it straight into a USB port on your desktop or laptop. I would recommed the stand if you have a desktop computer, as you can move the receiver out of the way.

After installation, it connected to my router immediately. You can use Windows to manage the connection or the Belkin utility that comes on the CD. I would recommend the Belkin utility. It has a graphical display of the status and settings that allow you to see other networks that might be in your area.

The only problem I have had is when I leave the computer on and connected to the network then go to bed for the night. When I come back, I have to disable and re-enable the adapter. I don't know if this is an issue with the adapter, the network, the router or Windows. It doesn't matter, as this is only a very minor inconvience.

The thing to keep in mind is that while this is compatiable with the G standard, the box indicates it meets the current DRAFT version of the N standard. It doesn't matter to me even if it ends up not being compatiable with the N standard when it is released, this device works just fine.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a wireless USB adapter.

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning for all Vista-users, July 22, 2007
This review is from: Belkin Wireless Network USB 2.0 Adapter N1 (Personal Computers)
While I am very happy with the performance of the Belkin N1 USB Wireless adapter, I have been disappointed with the support Belkin offers to customers using Vista.

The CD that comes with the product does not include Vista drivers. What's worse, the drivers available on the Belkin internet site are still beta drivers -- and these drivers not only seem to be quite unstable, but they also cause a very irritating sound stuttering issue when playing music, viewing videos or playing games.

I have contacted Belkin about the problem three times now over the last few months, and am still waiting for updated Vista drivers that fix the problem. Belkin advertises on their website, that this product is Vista-compatible - in my opinion it is far from it!

Great speeds and great range, but every time I start up my comp I have to reset the settings on it for it to work. This is something I never had to do with my old network adapter...

1.0 out of 5 stars 50% not a great ratio, December 23, 2008
This review is from: Belkin Wireless Network USB 2.0 Adapter N1 (Personal Computers)
I decided to finally upgrade to an 'N' Network so that my computers all over the house would not be stringing wires everywhere....

Knew Belkin Name for inexpensive but quality products... This is NOT one of them.

I got 4 of these along with their N Router...
I could not get the network to work, I fought it for 2 weeks off and on, and I couldn't get anything to talk to anything else. All I was trying to do at the time was setup 1 wireless computer about 5 feet away from the router, which was sitting right next to my ISP's Gateway device. Figured I'd get one working then head out to get the others configured. After 2 weeks I gave up, had a friend look at it, and we finally figured out the issue was the adapter was dead. Tried the second one and was on the network in about 5 minutes. When finally done, we had 2 dead adapters, from 2 different purchase points, out of 6 we tried to use.

Recommendation is stay away from Belkins 'N' Network devices.

Their Tech support is not great as their out-sourced support has a script to follow, and if you have something that isn't on the script you need to unplug your Router and adapter device for 30 minutes, plug it back in and see if that fixes the issue. If not call back with this case number (In other words, I have no idea, call back and get some one else)...

Paired with the Belkin N1 wireless router, I clock a consistent 300mbps. Setup is a breeze. This maybe a little biased since I am a rather experienced network admin but by all count since I don't have to manually configure anything, any layman should be able to setup within 10 minutes.

What is disappointing is that I wrote Belkin tech support and also posted on their support site a question, received an acknowledgement and a "canned" email stating someone will get back to me within 72 hours. That was over ten days ago.. still no response.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is a JUNK product, February 21, 2009
This review is from: Belkin Wireless Network USB 2.0 Adapter N1 (Personal Computers)
Stay away from this product. I have used N-MIMO router from Belkin which works GREAT. But, this product is shipped with buggy drivers. I have spent more than 6 hours with this device and after multiple installations and upgrades it has failed to work. At times, it would make windows do a memory fault causing the computer to restart.

I am returning this junk today and will get a 54g Netgear USB adapter which gave me full speed working online in the past and very reliable.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Adapter With Minor Issues, January 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Belkin Wireless Network USB 2.0 Adapter N1 (Personal Computers)
Have this product installed on my daughter's computer for about two years without any major problems. Read all the other reviews and it appears a lot of customers are having issues with this adapter. I also purchased the Belkin N1 Vision router and it's a good product, easy to install, just plug in the wires and the Belkin N1 Vision does the complete set-up for you. I hooked this router to my computer running cable then to my daughter's computer using the old slow AOL phone modem. Installed the Belkin N1 wireless USB adapter to her computer and she is now downloading and uploading at high-speed. I do agree that Belkin has not made any firmware updates to both the adapter and the N1 router since my purchase about two years ago. The only minor issue I became aware of was on some occasions the system would indicate "No Internet Connection", both my computer and my daughter's system would drop the internet signal, consequently losing all connection to the internet. To resolve this issue after speaking with a Belkin representative, he advised me to power-off the Belkin N1 router for about 30 seconds then power-on to allow the router to re-boot. After re-booting the signal was regained and the internet connection was restored. I sense this is a firmware issue which Belkin still has not resolved with both of these products. I hope this information is helpful to anyone experiencing the same issue(s) with Belkin wireless equipment. Belkin N1 Vision Wireless Router (F5D8232-4)

Belkin has 3 usb adapters. I am trying to figure out the differences. I purchased this one because it was cheaper, Fry's had two in stock and the price was reduced. On the Belkin web site it is the most expensive of the 3. I thought it was discontinued because of its size. Compared to my thumb drive size G adapter this one is hugh. I wanted to take it back and get a "current" model that was slim. Put it on my wife's computer any way and what a difference. Using a N1 Belkin router I purchased with it and the speed difference from G is stunning. I have had no problems with the adapter. Computer has been left on for a couple days, put to sleep, multiple start ups in a day. It all works very well. Now, i wonder if i want a slim attractive usb looking adapter or another one of these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Adapter!, May 1, 2009

This USB Adapter for the N wireless router is a great product. Even though I do regret getting the N wireless router as of now, due to there not being any good firmware as of yet, once firmware is available I can guarantee you that this router will work exceptional. Easy to set up and start using almost immediately.
