† The standard transmission rates - 150Mbps (for 2.4 GHz), 300Mbps (for 5Ghz), and 11Mbps - are the physical data rates. Actual data throughput will be lower and may depend on the mix of wireless products used.

* Test measured average throughput within a home network when connected devices are placed at various distances from router. The Belkin router had the highest average throughput at measurements greater than 30 feet. Leading routers were determined by identifying the most commonly purchased routers that collectively accounted for a majority of router sales. The stated transmis sion rate is the physical data rate. Actual data throughput will be lower. Actual speed and distance will vary depending on interference, network traffic, building materials, and other environmental factors.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Received this router, set it up with the same SSID and password as my previous router, and most of my devices were able to connect without having to reconfigure anything.

Configuration of the router was quite simple. Here are the pros and cons:

Pros:
1. Easy to set up password, left wireless channel selection to auto, etc.
2. Multibeam technology - spreads the signal well around the house. Can even use with my portable devices and laptop in the backyard (router in the den, so 2-3 walls away)
3. Self-healing technology (though this is suspect, as it seems to consist of telling the router to reboot itself at a certain day & time). Product description claims some kind of analysis to find the clearest channel (I did configure it for auto channel selection...many routers now have that option).
4. Many different devices connected - D-Link wireless print server, desktop PC running Vista, laptop running Windows XP Professional, laptop running XP Home, iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S, iPod Touch, iPad, Wii (streaming Netflix), 7" Android tablet, etc.
5. WPS configuration (though I did not use it...just assuming it will work)
6. Other standard configuration options available - DMZ, virtual server, MAC address filtering,

Cons:
1. Router displays its info (internet settings, lan settings, firewall settings, etc.) without needing to login
2. There is no place to reserve IP address based on specific MAC ID -- this is very important if you are connecting to LAN or WLAN enabled printers (or printer servers) or NAS drives. As a work around, I had to configure my printer with a static IP address, and make sure that the DHCP address range avoided the static IP used for the printer.

The first thing to know about the Belkin N300 wireless router is it takes little more than plugging it in to have it up and running (although the software is needed to change the default password). It comes with a network cable to connect to your cable modem and four conventional LAN ports for legacy devices using non-wireless connections. The wireless connection works out of the box and the performance is very good. I was able to connect a laptop, Kindle, and Nintendo DSi without issue. For those without much of a computer background, it makes an excellent choice given its ease of use.

I've had this router for about two months now, and it works great as long as you don't try to use the internet. If you'd like to use an internet based device, you'll need to unplug the router for 30 seconds so it remembers that it's a wireless router and is intended to connect things to the internet.

It's extremely helpful to go on Belkin's website to find out that this is considered perfectly normal, and isn't a sign that there's anything wrong with the router. Personally, I'd say a wireless router that forgets that it's a wireless router once a day is not exactly a reliable piece of equipment. I'd love to return it, but I'm outside of the magical 30 day window...so I'm stuck with this POS until I scratch together the money to buy one that works.

This is hands-down one of the worst pieces of computer equipment I have ever purchased. I was feeling cheap and needed to replace a old dead router so I ended up with this. Bad decision. Aside from the lack of features that I was used to in even the most boring routers from other companies, the N300 is pretty bad at routing. After spending a few hours over the course of a week fiddling with advanced settings and trying to get it to do what I wanted (which is to say, broadcast a wireless network at speeds hopefully greater than dialup), I threw up my hands and decided that I would solve all its problems with a power cycle. Great. Now every time the internet stops working (which is alarmingly regular across the innumerable different configurations I've tried) I have to go over and toggle the power strip. It's the only thing that gets it to work properly again (aside from occasional factory resets that I do in the hope that doing the bare minimum configuration might work -- nope).

I'm sitting literally adjacent to the router right now, struggling to load up the Amazon page for it while I write this review. Aside from another laptop (whose owner gave up and decided to plug in with an ethernet cable -- at least those work, most of the time) there's no one using the router. Different channels? No dice. Obstacles in the way? None. It barely reaches two rooms over, and it's supposed to be N? You're kidding me.

The value of the time wasted trying to get this router to cooperate with even the simplest demand has far, far exceeded what I saved not buying a real router. Don't ever, ever buy this one.

Our 5 year old router up and died one day after never giving us any trouble. We bought this router thinking it had good specs at an affordable price. Set up was a breeze. Problem is, it doesn't work very well. After 6 months of struggling with it, we're returning it. Sometimes it works fine for a few days, then on other occasions, the signal is constantly dropped and in the matter of an hour we can experience 30+ signal drops. The router also has very poor range. We have a small house, yet the signal is only strong enough in one or two rooms. Even in the room directly above the router with just a wood floor in between, it doesn't work. I've updated the firmware, changed the wireless channel and called customer support. Customer support seemed baffled at why it wasn't working properly after checking all my settings, then we some how got disconnected and no one called me back even though they took down my number in case of such an event. Customer support seems mainly equipped to handle people who can't connect at all or who need help with set up, not for more complicated troubleshooting like this.

Bottom line, we have to return it due to poor signal strength and constantly dropped signals.
