Whether you're surfing image-rich websites, sending a flurry of emails, or instant messaging far-off friends, using the Surf with your Wireless-N network delivers the fast speeds you need. 802.11n technology gives you speeds of up to 300 Mbps--that's five times the speed of G technology.

3D Coverage for Your Entire Home
With dual-plane antennas and MIMO--multiple-input and multiple-output--technology, the Surf provides three-dimensional, whole-home coverage for a consistent wireless signal, even when walls and floors separate the router from you and your computer. This reliable, continuous signal also provides uninterrupted surfing for multiple users in your home.

Windows and Mac Compatible Fast, Easy Three-step Setup
An easy three-step setup will get you up and running in minutes. Simply plug the Surf into your modem, plug the router into the wall, and insert the included startup CD into your computer for quick, painless on-screen setup.

To set up your network, the Surf requires a computer with a Windows XP (32), Windows Vista (32/64), or Mac OS X operating system; an installed network interface card and TCP/IP networking protocol; Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari; and minimum 64 MB RAM.

"Self-Healing" App Keeps Your Network Up and Running
The router also includes Belkin's "Self-Healing" Application, which analyzes your network and provides automatic detection and resolution of any problems. These routine maintenance scans help to ensure that you're always working on the clearest possible wireless channel. And if the network does require your attention, a notification will appear on-screen--no more guessing what the blinking lights under your desk mean.

Energy Star Smart Design with Energy Star Power Adapter
The versatile Surf features four LAN ports and one WAN port for use with multiple devices. Its innovative design also includes an Energy-Star-certified power adapter to minimize your energy use and reduce costs. Plus, the router's sleek black case and vertical, small-footprint design keep it unobtrusive.

Scratch my original review: What every other reviewer is saying is true. Horrible connection, constantly dropping connections...this thing sucks. Going to one of the big box stores to buy a D-Link (which I've never had problems with). Thanks belkin for putting out crap!

I had actually originally ordered the Belkin Wireless Play Router (F7D4302). After rereading the differences, I figured I could live without the extra "apps" and the USB port. I'm sure I made the correct choice at this point!

First about the physical aspects of the router:
When I opened the box I was really surprised. The cables are plugged into the router where they should be already. That might not seem like much, but to explain this to my father on the phone for when his shows up, it will be a snap. There was no "manual", but it is included on the cd. I do like that it came preconfigured with WPA2 and a password on a card. There is space to write down your configurations that you set, and it stores in a little pocket under the router.

Next the software and firmware:
The application on the CD just takes you to the router config (which you can do through a browser if you know the url which ISN'T a 192.168.x.xxx). The tool automatically configures everything, but I suggest setting a password for the router itself. There is also a program it installs, but I haven't had to use it yet. The firmware gives a bevy of options that I got to playing around with. There isn't anything special here to be honest. QoS is set to on, I've yet to decide whether to leave it or not. I don't have voip, but I stream a lot of movies from my own network and also boxee and Zinc. Some of the menu's don't have as many options on the same page as I would prefer which caused me to browse more pages that I thought necessary. Nit picky yes, but I enjoyed the firmware on my Dlink Gaming Router.

Finally Performance and Pricing:
Let's be real. It's a excellent performing $49 wireless N router. I've yet to see the value add of the "Self healing" application, but overall, for the price, I didn't see a better offering. Performance wise, I used to be able to transfer 10GB + files on my Dlink Gaming Router (g) at about 2-3Mb/s. I get 12-15 with this one. I'm very pleased. Streaming 10GB .mkv's is no issue at all now.

Probably my only true gripe, it feels like REALLY cheap plastic. I personally would have paid $10 more to get a metal case like the netgear switches. This could be a heating dissipation issue, I'm not sure, but like I said, it feels amazingly cheap (and light).

Don't need the USB, this is your best bet!

Stay away from this router. Sorry that I bought this from Best Buy. My old G router worked just as well and had more signal strength and a better antennae. I got this to upgrade my old G that was having problems. I use it to stream netflix movies to my home theater. This router is less than 40 feet away on the same floor of an open living space... and doesn't have enough signal to stream movies without hangups and constant re buffering. If I take my Bluray player that this talks to, out of the TV cabinet and point it in almost direct line of site.. than it will work... If you plan on using this to connect PC's etc in other rooms separated by walls, don't bother with this router. I have to return it and invest in something better.

Belkin Surf January 3, 2011
By Timo
Best cheap router I have bought! Ok is not the fastest but I have 2 story houes & have no connection issues. Running 3 desktops, 4 to 5 laptops & XBox 360. I bought this one while traveling, when Hotel we were staying at wireless did not work (but their wired was fine) being we had 3 laptops trying to use I went to BB & found this one for $29.95. It was fast/easy & worked great. I have now added it to my home wireless group & other then not being blazing fast, it has worked great for 6 months. I have Comcast's fastest internet offered in my erea & speednet has my main computer at over 20mb. I also have a Netgear "N" wireless AP at other end of house for my boys. I have no complaints, as has excceded my expectations for a sub $30 router.
