The Grand Canyon revealed,
By
This review is from: Belknap's Waterproof Canyonlands River Guide All New Edition (Paperback)
Owning the indispensable Waterproof Belnap Grand Canyon River Guide will make my trip down the Colorado River even more enjoyable. Each landmark along the 277-mile run is described in detail. Historical highlights, along with the natural history, notes on flora and fauna of the canyon make this a comprehensive, informative guide. I especially liked the information provided about the native peoples who have lived in the canyon for the past 10,000 years. This handy book will be tucked into my back pack and referred to often on what promises to be a most memorable journey.

This is the second copy of this book that I have purchased. If you are going to canoe down the Green River in UT (below the town of Green River), this is you Bible. Don't leave home without it.

In color, but still a bit confusing to read,
By High Water "Poudre River Raft Guide" (Fort Collins, Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Belknap's Waterproof Canyonlands River Guide All New Edition (Paperback)
It's nice that the map is in color, but the content is basically the same as the previous map, in that the map is opposite to what would be most user friendly. I like that Westwater and the upstream and downstream canyons are covered in this map. I wish the mapmakers would make the map easier to read, a la Grand Canyon River Guide by Tom Martin. All maps should be like that one! I don't like flipping this map 180 degrees constantly in order to read the river map in relation to the river I'm floating, and then turn it 180 degrees again to read about it.

By far the best book and map on floating the Green and Colorado rivers. The maps are detailed and at a perfect scale. The paper and binding held up great despite being kicked around the bottom of the canoe for a week.
I hesitated to buy it because of the corny cover, but the photos and information inside are professional grade, and it's well worth the money. In fact, I can't think of a single thing to improve it

I do agree with other reviews that it would make it more useful if the maps were from your perspective on the river (like other river map books). And I'm not sure why some portions of the Colorado have campsites marked but the Green has no marks (maybe no official campsites?). All in all it will be a helpful book, but I was looking for some insider information that will enrich my river experience such as neat hikes, cool places to camp, and possibly a little more on logistics. I guess that is what the internet is for these days.
