I received this item and use it for my 200 Honda Accord. Is very sturdy ... and holds cycles well. Easy to Install. Only issue is bike mounting sockets move back an forth on the mounting rod - I can live with that. Over all I am very satisfied.

This bike rack is strong and feels secure when it's set up but the actual setup is tricky. I have a sedan and the side straps don't work on the side of the trunk (they'll just slip off) I put both the side and lower straps on the lower part of the trunk and pulled them tight- this seems to work well. I drove a couple thousand miles with the rack and had no problem. It folds for storage- which is nice.

This 3 bike trunk-mount rack from Bell Sports is well constructed and stable when on the car (or mini-van as I did also) but the separation of the 2 bars on which the bikes mount are too far apart. It was virtually impossible to mount smaller road bikes (adult bikes, not kids bikes) in the conventional manner - through the main triangle. The bikes I was carrying where sized from medium to small and had aero carbon tubing making the space within the triangle but still, 2 inches narrower and it would have worked.

The most common complaint I see in regards to these universal mounts in general seems to be related to straps coming loose. Also common for these types is the price; sub $100 and ripe to be reinforced with a set of ratchet tie downs from a discount tool joint such as harbor freight. I got my rack for 50 and spent less than $10 on a set of 4 ratchet straps.

Mounting on a 2011 kia sportage ( you might ask why not roof Mount for an SUV; I'd answer more expensive, and add shortness and bad back and legs for some potential disaster), the top straps are mostly there to provide stability as they pull over the rear spoiler. However the side and bottom straps are one piece and therefore benefit immensely from additional torque. Mount at all three points with as much tension as you can manually apply. Then attach each ratchet to excess strap and loop its hook to the opposite lower bend of the frame. The bends have a smaller diameter as such will accommodate smaller universal hooks while preventing slippage to the larger unbent tube section. Repeat for the other side evenly and you will have cross tension giving you some serious lateral stability. The upper straps can also be further stabilized with ratchets however not without risk of damaging the spoiler/light fixture on a SUV hatch like mine, I only ratchet enough to prevent vertical slippage rather than increased tension.

Once bikes are mounted, check straps one more time to maximize tension as the foam cushions will compress. Most significant downside is that there is small chance of three adult bikes fitting. I have one adult huffy with baby seat, one child huffy and one adult mongoose and they just barely fit in that order with some serious wiggling and Lego fitting to make them all sit together. Semi benefit is that theyre so packed together you might be able to get away without using a bungee strap or two. Maybe not even a bike chain as it would take some time for a thief to offload your frankenbike rack.

will hold well, make sure to tie it tight. black rubber will leave marks on light colored cars, would prob come off with a wax or buff.

Attaches to car quickly and easily. I didn't even need to read the directions (but I did to make sure!!!) My only complaint is the "cradles" with the velcro straps are a complete failure. The instructions state to tighen them as well as you can. The first one I tightened broke. The rubber eye that you pass the velcro strip through just ripped right through. In the next few days, I've ripped through two more, so needless to say, I am only placing the bikes on the rubber cradles and securing them with my own additional bungee cords. One of the velcro straps has come completely off of the cradle because BOTH sides of the strap holders failed! I called Bell and was told that they will send me a new set of cradles but they are currently on back-order and there is no ETA. Its only been a week and i still haven't received them. If the cradles worked, I'd give this item a 5. I already think 2 stars is generous but it does do the work as long as you supplement it with bungees. I've taken my bike on this rack 5 miles and 50 miles. Its even been on the Garden State Parkway and no problems. It is a little scarey when you hit bumps though as the bikes wiggle a bit but no problems other than the cradle strap holders failing.

My rack arrived today. Supposedly assembles in seconds. This rack is a piece of junk. The arm will not lock in place. How is it supposed to support a bike? Or 3? Called customer support at Bell, complete waste of time. She couldn't help me without looking at the rack. So ridiculous!

I have a volkswagen beetle, and this truck rack fits well on my car. We used it for a 4 hour car ride with two adult bikes and didn't have a single problem. Well worth the money.
