2.0 out of 5 stars Less than I'd hoped for
The price was unbeatable, and the Shipping was fast !
The product itself reflects the price, I'm afraid.
Granted, here in my home state it doesn't usually get 8 hours of sun to recharge. And since it doesn't throw out alot of light, I had to put the solar light close to the lawn ornament I want to light up, and in that position in my yard it wouldn't get 8...

The price was unbeatable, and the Shipping was fast !
The product itself reflects the price, I'm afraid.
Granted, here in my home state it doesn't usually get 8 hours of sun to recharge. And since it doesn't throw out alot of light, I had to put the solar light close to the lawn ornament I want to light up, and in that position in my yard it wouldn't get 8 hours of light even on the sunniest of days.
That and the fact that it's winter, and sunny days are rare here now, cloudy being the norm, and it is just disappointing to come home from work in the evening and seeing that the light not lighting up my lawn decoration like I'd hoped.
Well, for the money, I would have been surprised if it had worked.
I'd hoped that Bell+Howell would have had all the angles covered, and had a spectacular product that beat expectations, but as the instructions say, this light does require a full day of sun to recharge, and it has to be placed close to what you want to have lit up at night. Within 5 feet or so, to get a decent amount of light on the lawn decoration.
I'm now considering low voltage lighting... but I just don't like the idea of a transformer constantly plugged in for low voltage lighting. Transformers usually run warm at least, if not hot. I view them as a dangerous weak link and a eventual fire hazard, that needs to be attached to my home, and I'd really rather not take a chance on that. Besides, I really wanted to use solar power in this day and age of ever increasing power bills and energy costs.
This Solar Spotlight probably won't do anyone I know any good as far as doing a great job of lighting up anything, and it requires more charging time than it gives back in lighting time. I can't recommend it.

Extremely disappointed. Worked well for about a week, poorly for a month; after that, ALL SIX were no longer functioning. I live in Bermuda, so they got plenty of sunlight.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broken in box!, August 23, 2007
This review is from: Bell+HowellŽ Solar Spotlight
I ordered two of these solar lights and both of them were broken - the plastic stem holding the solar panel on the top was snapped off. The boxes were not at all damaged, and the products were quite protected within the box, so it was not a shipping problem.

I tried emailing the company that shipped them and got no response. It's not worth my time to hassle with them, and take a chance on replacements also being broken, so I'm going to try to glue them together.

But I will certainly not order from this company again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bright light from Bell+Howell, May 25, 2007

These spotlights produce a bright light after being recharged by sunlight. The lights illuminate our front door(easy to find lock), back door (good security), and shed (also secure). A good product.

I bought this solar light to light up a statue and it does not give off enough light to even see the solar light itself at night, not worth buying

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy this Junk, January 18, 2010

Junk from the start! Should have bought these type of products locally so I could take it back. Bought two of these lights. Did not work out of the box. Re-read the instruction to make sure I had not skipped any step.
Back yard is facing south so it gets full sunlight all day in Colorado where there is at leat 330 days of sunlight enough to make these lights flicker. Nothing from these after several troubleshooting sessions.

Bell & Howell used to be an awesome company, I suppose, like most everything else, "used to be" doesn't count..

Stay away from these and vist your local hardware store.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not very bright, February 13, 2007
This review is from: Bell+HowellŽ Solar Spotlight
This product has not given off much light. I think you would need two or three of them to be able to illuminate a small area.
