This is why I originally ordered a 'Medium' Bell Bellistic bike helmet; only to have it arrive and cause my ears to burn while trying to put it on and take it off for the first time. The good news is that the return was easy and I was credited all but the $6.70 return S&H. I re-ordered the same helmet in the next size bigger and it too is pretty darn tight (considering it's a 'Large' and I don't have a 'Large' head). I decided to keep it rather than return the same product AGAIN for the same reason.
My next disappointment was on my inaugaral ride: the mouth protecting area of the helmet smelled strongly of the synthetic chemicals used in the production process and as I huffed and puffed up a hill every inhalation was laced with off-gassing chem's; seriously detracting from the enjoyment of my ride. I've left it out in the sun and rain and wind for about a week so it's probably "good to go" by now. My advice: Order 1 to 2 sizes bigger than you think you need, and let it breathe before you hit the trails.
My head is a Medium for the Giro Xen and Fox Flux. Since most suggested to get a size or two bigger, I purchased a Large. Well, I received the Bell Balistic (large) today; tried it on; and the helmet happened to be loose on me. After inserting the extra pads that the helmet came with and playing around with it on my head, it was still loose.
Knowing that the Bellistic's padding does not come out so it can be easily wash, I planned to wear a bandanna over my head so I would sweat mostly into the rag instead of the padding. After trying the helmet on with the bandanna, the helmet snugged perfectly-- not too tight and not too loose.
The quality of the Bellistic is excellent. With the helmet on, I pounded my head to the table and the it did the job-- no pain and nothing uncomfortable. The helmets shape is wonderful because the goggle strap wraps around the the lower edge, which does not cover any air vents.
Overall, great helmet, great price.
Only complaint is the size. I have a large and it is still snug (even through that is probably safer). Get one size bigger than you think you need.

These helmets are way too small for the sizing. Had to send back without using so can't comment on quality.Published on October 6, 2011 by John B. Todd
The helmet sizing is crazy, I have a small head and I figured a small would fit me just fine...."wrong". The Small size didnt even fit down over my head, stoped at my forehead. Read morePublished on March 23, 2011 by Finland mtb

Broke my jaw mountain biking about a year ago so needed to get me a full face. This was about the cheapest helmet I could find and I has held up well. Plus it looks pretty legit. Read morePublished on December 22, 2010 by Andrew J. Feil
