5.0 out of 5 stars Rumi with a Fender., December 11, 2003
This review is from: Bell (Audio CD)
Listen to Stuart's last five studio albums in succession (Kid Mystic, Bright Apocalypse, Stuart Davis, The Late Stuart Davis, and Bell) and try to tell me that Stuart is not one of the great mystical poets as well as a major pop music talent. In these 60 or so songs, he confronts redemption, inwardness, sin, birth, death, immanence, transcendence, and emptiness with intelligence, biting wit, and penetrating guitar riffs. Stuart improves with every album, and Bell is no exception. For a truly mind-changing experience, see Stu in concert.

5.0 out of 5 stars 10 stars easily. One of the best pop albums this year, November 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Bell (Audio CD)
I have all of Stuart Davis's previous releases and love them all, but this new release Bell goes beyond what he has done before. Working with Alex Gibson and Tripp Lanier,(Hank Madison) the production matches the sensibility of the songs right on. From the trance like Bell to the simple yet lovely Ara Belle. Bell is a brilliant album.
Sexy Messiah is a punchy pop number about the second coming of Christ as a teenage Buddhist girl and is very infectious.
Human Girl, Flower of a Zero, Wizard, and Ara Belle are the other gems on this album.
This is one the finest pop albums this year that has blazin combination of intellect, humor, and dakini power.

But I like it. But I like it. I like it, I like it, she's only saving souls.

Best music I've ever heard since SD's last album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stuart Davis and his White album, June 16, 2010
This review is from: Bell (Audio CD)
Of all of his albums this one is probably the one that is his seminal work, maybe literally. The songs, the message, the poetry of his tones all come together in this one album. Each song is a jewel that must be listened to over and over to get all of the facets and the beauty. Some songs are offensive, some are funny, all touch me in places that maybe they shouldn't. Aw heck, maybe I should be touched there. The Dharma was never so sexy.

1. Belle - starts out sort of brooding and builds in layers to a great tune.

2. Sexy Messiah - Check it out dadadadada da dammit.... Stuart hopes to offend in a sultry and sexy way. He delivers in spades.

3. Kharma Pyre - A cool multi layer song that has a fantastic beat.

4. +Dharma -Drama - one of the issues in any religion is the message sometimes gets lost in political nonsense. Drop all that and learn, sit, pay attention this tune gives you the recipe along with chocolate chips.

5. Smoke - Fantastic tune, one man, 6 strings on a guitar, builds to a crescendo and gets lost in a puff of smoke.

6. Human Girl - Heavy rock tune, or is it?

7. Flower of Zero - whats another bruise in the belly? Lotus flower.

8. Is - simple tunes and tones that are pleasant to listen to. The interlude of what is to come.

9. Wizard - I have a vision of something dark and mischievous taking place in a basement somewhere that shouldn't be talked about here.

10. Original Face - What was your face before your parents were born? Koan sauce on a mystical hotdog.

11. The Glimpse - Satori can come and go with a brief spark of life and then be gone. Sounds and tones of the universe.

12. Ara Belle - Stuart welcomed to the world his new daughter. I think this is a great song, beautiful and touching by a new dad.

That is my stream of consciousness review of a fantastic album.

Thanks for reading my review.

WoW! great great stuff... watch out world here comes stuart... Somehow stuart davis has delved within and underneath and beyond the banality and deadness of everyday life and has found a spark of authenticity that is growing into a bon-fire to help breathe life into and transform karma of corpses everywhere (while at the same time opening us to the Blessings of the wondrous depths of the capital Mystery...) With this album and in his life he(and fellow musicians, friends, and wife) is furthering the surrection of "Sexy Messiah".
