Heavy Duty, Nice Looking, but Difficult,
By Nancy Beiman "Northernexpress" (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bell'O SPC-300M Pair of Speaker Stands (Electronics)
I bought these stands because of a rave review on another site. The reviewer described the stands as 'easy to assemble'. Easy, I think, if you are King Kong, and can rip subway trains in half for a lark. The screw holes for the base are JUST a millimetre or so too far apart to make assembly 'easy'. I had to brace the unit against my chest and mimic Seppuku (hara kiri) to deform the metal enough to get the screws into the holes. I got them in after a struggle, but cursed the manufacturer's stupid design. The unit is supposed to have rubber feet to sit on wooden floors. These turned out to be cheap plastic, and the screws were JUST a millimetre too big to go into the holes. I finally did without the stupid things. Spikes, designed for carpet, are better designed, but try using these on a wooden floor! As for performance: The units are stable and very heavy, not likely to be knocked over despite the slim silhouette. The speakers also lose their 'boomy' quality when not on the floor; the sound is immensely improved. A few simple changes would make this a truly superior unit. As it stands, I recommend it with the above reservations. Ladies, get a strong friend to put it together... |
