Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bella Baby Organic Frozen Baby Food, Mix & Match Flavors (Green Pea, Banana, Corn), 9-Count, 1.5-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 4) (Grocery)
These were recently on sale at Amazon so I thought I would give them a try. (Honestly, there is no way I would ever purchase these at the regular price--organic or not.) I know organic is always more expensive. But this stuff? Whoa. Like I said, I got it on sale, but even on sale it was about TWICE as expensive as the plastic tubs of Gerber. At full price, it would be about FOUR TIMES more expensive! EEK!! I'm sorry, but organic food in tiny frozen packets is just not worth 4X more to me.They promote the ease and convenience of just throwing these in your bag and then they will be ready to eat once they've defrosted. This food comes in plastic packets much like ketchup or hot sauce, just bigger...so unless you want to squeeze the food directly into your baby's mouth, or squeeze it into a spoon, or carry an extra bowl for serving...I just don't see the extra convenience this product is offering. I mean, really, how much harder is it to throw in a jar/plastic tub of food? At least those have the added benefit of already being in a container making it easy to eat. That said, the package opens very easily and the food comes out of the packets very easily so there is little to no waste. Additionally, the consistency varies between items. We first tried the corn, and it was thick, lumpy, and a bit "dry"--what I would gauge to be at least a stage three food. Then we tried the pears (from the Bella Baby Organic Frozen Baby Food, Mix & Match Flavors (Apricot, Mango, Pear)--I can't link at the moment because it's sold out), and they were so watery I would have guessed it as a stage one food. The product information doesn't say which stage these foods are supposed to be, so it's not like I expected one thing and received another--but I would think that all the foods would be about the same stage. (That said, I realize pears and corn DO have different consistencies. The difference was just extremely noticeable and it really jumped out at me.) My baby isn't quite up to the lumpier/dryer foods yet, so he protested a bit, and I ended up mixing the corn with another corn casserole jarred food he likes, and then he ate the corn no problem. Conversely, he ate the pears as fast as I could spoon them in his mouth because the consistency was so thin. That said, he did enjoy the taste of both. (He also liked the banana, but it was also what I would consider a stage one food.) Be aware that the product packages are only 1.5oz each (yes, it says it in the name of the item, but I wasn't paying attention and didn't realize just how small 1.5oz is). My son, who can eat up to 10oz at a meal, would require about SEVEN packets for a meal (and one box is nine packets!). So I would consider these more of a quick snack or an add-on to a meal rather than a full meal. I did try using the still-frozen packets for teething but I really don't like having to watch that the thawing pieces don't fall out on to the floor (where anything and everything would stick to it) and my baby didn't really like holding the frozen packet. I did end up cutting the frozen food into pieces that would fit into a Munchkin Fresh Food Feeder 2 Pack and that worked better--although still not perfect, as most of the fruits are VERY smooth (pureed) and once it starts melting, it just oozes out of the mesh feeder and gets all. over. everything. Overall? If you don't mind spending 2-4 times the amount of regular jarred baby food, by all means try this food. Otherwise, I think I'd take a pass. |
