4.0 out of 5 stars Rock and Roll for the new millenium, January 9, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Belle (Audio CD)
In short, this album ROCKS! With a good dose of indie-ness and (admittedly) SOME Thom Yorke-esque vocal stylings, this is one you can crank all the way through and get some nice, ripping results. What's really great is that the album has a nice, polished quality that you'd expect from a band with a couple of studio releases under its belt. The genius of the album lies within the band's ability to create a powerful wall of sound while never simply "making noise." You gotta dig the guitar heroics. This album is also a decent representation of the band live, although the energy the band plays with is an inspiring sight to see. In my opinion, they're one of the best groups based out of Atlanta. If you dig indie rock and roll, get this album. But if you're within earshot, go hear this band shred. You will not be disappointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars ATL, June 21, 2002

J (Atlanta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Belle (Audio CD)
This cd, which I have listened to many times since I purchased it almost two months ago is a cd that is very hard to take out of the cd player. From the band's previous releases which might be unknown to some up-and-coming fans, "Sleep With The Fishes" and "The Big Nothing", "Belle" is another stepping stone for the band. I receive many criticisms from friends of mine that have listened to the band and say that Dan Dixon's(lead singer/guitar) vocals try too much to sound like Radiohead. I could see maybe a small resemblance, but in my honest opinion, Dan Dixon pulls it off better than Thom Yorke. I might be shot for saying this if I were face to face with some of those friends that mentioned about the resemblances, but oh well. With songs like "Stolen", "Good Intentions", "Did You Notice", and "Take A Picture", Dropsonic might finally break into the world that so badly needs a new band. I am from Atlanta myself, which is where Dropsonic also calls home, and it is always a great moment to see them live in any place around the city. Though some of the songs on "Belle" are bit more stripped down and simpler than their other two releases, "Belle" will stay in my cd player for much longer, and I suggest other people take a listen, and hope they agree.
