5.0 out of 5 stars "Belle et Rebelle" (Beautiful & Rebellious), September 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Belle Et Rebelle (Audio CD)
Belle et Rebelle is a thematic tribute to the Breton city of Nantes. In typical Triyannesque fashion, it is a creative blend of the traditional and the modern, of acoustic and electronic, of Breton and French (with a bit of Irish thrown in); and of moods: pensive, mysterious and exuberant. From the stirring chronicle of a famous Breton military victory ("Le Renard", or The Fox), to a poignant glimpse of the home front during the Great War "Les Pailles d'Or Brisees" (The Broken Golden Straws); from the haunting and very celtic fantasy "Korydwenn" to the infectiously rhythmic "Sur le Fosse au Boulot" (On the Job), Belle et Rebelle never falters.
Those not familiar with the fascinating Breton culture, and/or the French language, will miss much of this album's dimension; even so, it's worth a listen. The sheer variety of sounds, in combination with the group's unique vocal harmonies, make it one of those albums that gets better each time you listen to it.
