In 2007, renowned Irish company Belleek will release 15 limited edition pieces to commemorate the company's 150th anniversary. Each piece represents one decade from the company's history, and many historic forms are being revived after years of retirement for the Archive Collection. Only 400 of this classical, dolphin-riding cherub candlestick holder will be made, each one numbered and backstamped, making this a true collector's item. Though the dolphin candlestick was exhibited at the 1900 Paris Exhibition, Belleek investigations show the piece was mostly likely introduced as early as the 1860s. The 7-1/2-inch work of art is crafted in Ireland of fine parian china, then hand-painted with gold trim.

Parian china, invented in Great Britain in the 1840s for sculpting classical figurines, was particularly popular in Victorian times. Because of the china's marble-like translucence, the name derived from the Greek island of Paros, famous for its prized white marble. Distributed today by Reed & Barton, Belleek parian ware exhibits exceptional craftsmanship and is esteemed among collectors worldwide. --Ann Bieri

Not only is this an superb value, but also a wonderful piece for any Belleek collector. I have many Belleek items, but this is definitely the premier piece in my collection. It is part of the Belleek 2007 Archive Collection which makes it highly collectable. The candlestick has heft, real gold detailing, and a tinge of blue around the leaf's edges and the thistle candle holder. A superb rendition of a cherub riding astride a stylized dolphin completes the piece. It recalls Belleek of previous years with the same craftsmanship and attention to detail. This is a piece that will add grace and style to any collection. Very highly recommended. Incredible value!
