I have been in the Army awhile now, and I have tried many boots. The problem that I was having was that my feet would end up hurting over time, or they would just feel worn out. After I tried this boot all my problems vanished. These boots are very comfortable, in fact, they were better than my running shoes, and they are an enjoy to wear. The only down side to these boots is that they are not waterproof, but because of how comfortable and light these boots are I feel that they are very deserving of a five-star rating.

After a year and a half of wearing these everyday I finally had to buy another pair as my old ones were worn out.

This is my 4th pair of the Belleville 390s. The ones that this pair replaced were well-used. I wore them through Ranger School, SFAS, RSLC, and other tactical courses before they finally broke beyond repair. Ordering direct through Amazon, my boots arrived promptly and in good shape.

I bought these from another website at the advice of a friend.

I've been looking to do some traveling and I wanted a solid pair of boots that could take anything I throw at them. Who better to ask than a friend who has a few tours of duty behind him? He advised me to wear them wet for a day to break them in (which I did) along with throwing in my own pair of inserts (Superfeet Green).

By far the MOST COMFORTABLE pair of boots I've ever worn. There's enough flex and give to do whatever you need without feeling like you have 2x4's strapped to your feet.

    One word of caution, however:
As an earlier reviewer mentioned this particular boot runs HUGE. I had no clue and had to send a pair back for a smaller size. I later saw on Belleville's website (in the fine print) something indicating that these boots have a tendency to run large. I would definitely advise going at least a half and maybe a full size smaller than you usually wear.

These are the current standard issue boots for most U.S. forces, and for good reason. The Belleville 390 DES boot is comfortable from the first wearing, lightweight and remains comfortable during extended wear. I had not worn boots regularly since my last flying assignment in the US Navy in 1993, and wasn't sure how I'd adapt to these boots. The good news: no adaptation was needed. I was expecting a break-in period as I'd experienced with previous "issue" boots..and none was required. I've since worn them for up to 12 hours daily with socks of varying thickness and material: no issues with rubbing, blisters or binding across a range of surfaces (woodland, grass, sand and pavement).

    Two notes:
    (1) These boots are not waterproof, so if you anticipate a wet environment or rain, you'll want to treat them with water repellent.
    (2) Start sizing these boots a full size smaller than what you normally wear. Normally a size 11, choosing a 390 DES in a size 10 yielded a perfect fit.

I purchased these boots for my son who is involved in some pretty realistic air soft matches. He loves these boots. Stated that they fit him perfectly and that they are lightweight and comfortable. He will put them to the test, but not to worry because these boots are very well made. Recommend.

I've always found that you really can't go wrong with Belleville boots. As a former Army infantryman, current EMT and avid hiker a good pair of boots has always been important for me. I've never felt the need to stray away from military style boots, so long as you know their limitations. Like others have said, these aren't waterproof but they'll dry quicker than a pair of GoreTex lined boots. I always recommend breaking in boots because everybody's feet are different.

I had my last pair of these for about 4 years and took them on training (as well as hiking while off duty) all over the U.S. and on two deployments to Iraq. I'm fairly sure I'd still have them if a Stryker ramp hadn't taken a huge gouge out of the suede during my last deployment, pretty much rendering them unserviceable for garrison once I redeployed. I did still wear them for about 6 months of that last deployment with the giant hole on top of the toe, and aside from a foot that got a little dustier than the other one they were still holding up. I'd recommend these, or any, Belleville boots to anyone. They're extraordinarily well made and have lasted, on average, about 7 years before needing to be replaced or have major repairs. I'll be getting another pair of these as soon as I get the money for them. Hope this helps, any questions are welcome.

I was looking for good hot weather boots to hike/backpack in, but the only ones I could find at my local surplus store are used and haggard or the cheap Rothco brand, or ALTAMA which is much better but still cheap.
The reviews of this boot is what sealed the deal. Everyone is completely correct! These boots are top quality. They are similar to the Bates desert boot, but these have a nice padding on the top of the ankle which the Bates does not.
The sizing comments are accurate. ORDER ONE SIZE SMALLER THAN NORMAL. I was worried I'd have to return them but a 9 fit my size 10 feet Perfect!!! I can't say enough good things about thse boots.
