Belleville shows the appeal the bustling town held for many of the nation's most influential figures, including inventor Thomas Edison and famed architect Charles Granville Jones. The town was also a notable stop on Gen. George Washington's retreat from New York City to Philadelphia during the early days of the Revolutionary War. With nearly two hundred vintage photographs, Belleville offers rare insight into the town's explosive growth, drawing largely from the archives of the Belleville Public Library and the collections of local individuals and organizations.

About the Author
Journalist and historian Nicole T. Canfora is a former reporter for the Belleville Times and is an editor on the staff of the Daily Record newspaper in Parsippany. A former Belleville resident, Canfora became interested in Belleville history while researching her own family's roots, beginning with its immigration to Belleville in the late nineteenth century.

I bought this as a gift for someone who spent much of their youth there. They enjoyed the book immensely especially the pictures of places which were a part of their lives, some of which are no longer there. It was well done, interesting, and informative.

5 star accurate account of a very progressive town.
My Mother,Alice Meehan Breininger,was born 88 years ago in Belleville and lived there until after she was married.She was raised at 651 Belleville Ave.She went through the Belleville school system and has always been complimented on her education.She returned to visit from upstate NY as often as she could and missed it when she was not there.She always told me how progressive and historic Belleville was and is still singing its praises. We are now living in Florida,but given a ride to the airport,she'd return in an instant.Although the Young family(her grandparents) is gone she still misses her home. The book sits on her bedside table and I find her reading it very often.It brings back so many good memories for her.Her review is that Nicole got it all right!!!! I bought her this book,and after many years of expensive gifts,I finally got it right!
