As a Marine Corps officer candidate, I was told that I should get a pair of boots so that I could condition my body for running with five extra pounds on my feet. I got these boots after having done a bit of research on other sites. While Belleville was a brand that was not mentioned a great deal, the few reviews that I found were all favorable. As I could not afford to get a pair of top-of-the-line Danners, I decided to take a chance on these, and purchased a pair at the local military supply store. Out of the box, they are quite comfortable, and after a slight period of mild discomfort (your mileage here may vary) I had broken them in. Currently, they are great to wear, and provide excellent support for hiking and just daily walking about-- speaking only for a civilian routine, of course. A word of warning, however: these are Infantry Combat Boots (ICBs), so they will be a bit heavier than the popular Bates Lights or even jungle boots. They are well-suited for climbing ropes (in my experience), and get great traction thanks to the athletic-type sole, but if you don't train in them regularly, you'll be in for a bit of a system shock when running/sprinting with them. All in all, a good pair of affordable starting boots. I'd buy them again.

This is my 3rd pair of Belleville boots I've got 2 winter wet weather boots plus the 550 ST for the summer. Boot is rugged, steel toe is designed well, and the boots breath nicely. I purchased Kiwi dessert boot care kit to clean the boots and maintain there appearance. The boots clean up easily. Only one very minor problem for me I had to buy Dr. Scholl's inserts not because of heel pain just because the boots arch supports are a little low. This is not a reflection on the boot as much as it is my feet. Other then the low arch I would buy of Belleville's any day any time., They are hard wearing American made products and that is exactly why I keep buying them.

I bought my first pair for 6$ at a pawnshop. They were in OK shape then with 2 years on them, 3 years later they still have life in them. I have owned many other boots and nothing has beaten these. Make sure you order 1 size smaller than your tennis shoes.

These boots are excellent for field work or just walking around town. With jeans, they look like typical work boots. They maintain well in the snow, rain, and mud. I just ran the Marine O-Course in them last week and they gripped very well. Although they are a bit heavy (2 lbs a piece), they exceptionally comfortable and breathe well. I would highly recommend these boots to both Marines and civilians alike. My bit of advice is to buy a full size smaller than your sneaker size (if you're a 9 sneaker, get an 8 boot), as Belleville combat boots run large. S/F

I was introduced to the Belleville brand while in Iraq with the US Army. We had just gone to the tan desert boot as the uniform standard. That Belleville boot was the most comfortable and long lasting boot I had ever used.

When it was time to buy a pair of steel toe boots for my civilian career Belleville was the brand I turned to, and the 550 ST is the boot I purchased directly from the Belleville web site. These exceed the experience of my first Bellevilles: Even more comfortable and the tread is impressive. They're flexible in the right places and nothing bites, not even the hardened toe.

I've worn them nearly every day for over two and a half years. There are no worn spots in the leather ready to turn into holes, there are no threads hanging out where seams are ready to blow, there aren't even any toe holes or heel marks where my foot grinds against the cushion sole. I barely maintain them like I know I'm supposed to, with cleaning and suede treatments, and they still look outstanding.

I'm ordering another pair right now not because I need them, but in fear that they may change or discontinue my favorite boot. These things happen.

If those first three criteria listed in the title of this review are not enough for you, then you really shouldn't be looking at these in the first place. Kidding aside, I've gone through multiple pairs of these, each pair lasting me several years. Each pair took an insane amount of punishment. I repeat...an insane amount. All that the USMC could dish out - during both my time as 0811 and during my time as (and in becoming) an Officer, all that I could dish out on my own, all that every extreme of environment and locale could dish out. And all of them have never looked as if they experienced the level of abuse they really took - they look far, far better. I mention that for how remarkably well these hold up - they are rock-solid.

More importantly than how they look years later is the service they provide - these boots never failed to deliver anything other than outstanding service and protection. Durable/sturdy, comfortable, footwear is essential, period. If it is your first time going from a sneaker to a boot such as this, there will be an adjustment period. But right out of the box, these have been comfortable, sturdy and something I could wear for hours upon hours upon hours, through all type of training, active use, abuse and civilian activities - work, hunt, hike, etc.

In the opinion of this Marine Officer, Belleville is without question the best out there. They've been making boots for over 100 years here in the United States and millions of servicemen/women, LEOs, first responders and other folks put their lives in these boots each and every day. They have never failed me and they are my boot of choice to this day.
