A Feast,
By Phillip T. Lewis (Nashville, TN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bellini: The Supreme Operatic Recordings (Audio CD)
No appetizer served with this feast, just main dishes. Norma is first, and with names like Pinza, Lauri-Volpi, and Ponselle, not a morsel is to be missed. Luscious sides include the support of Marion Telva, and the bittersweet Irene Minghini-Cattaneo will cleanse the pallate when you remember the tragic end to her life and career. Then we are served a heaping portion of I Puritani. Lighter fare perhaps but no less filling when listening to the rich blend of Gino Vanelli and Tancredi Pasero in "Suoni La Tromba". Dessert is served with La Sonnambula including 2 duets featuring Galli-Curci and Dal Monte seated on either side of the great Schipa. Tetrazzini is the icing on the cake with a timeless "Ah! Non Giunge".
