Though I'm not through with it yet, this title is a great read if you love Roman History. Caesar was quite literally a mad genius, and kind of a jerk too. The book is worded strangely, but I imagine that's due to the nature of latin as a language itself. If you take the time to understand at first, the language becomes easier to comprehend(differentiating between the various pronouns and possession articles) as you go along.

I had promised myself myself that I would read this eventually . I did and I enjoyed it . I did have a couple of Colleen McCullough's Caesar series open for the maps . A lot of tribal names and old territorial names - the maps help . Surprisingly readable for a 2000 year old book .

After reading De Bello Gallico, I can not help be amazed at both the skill of Caesar as a General, the skills of his lesser Generals and accompanying soldiers in battle. There is also something to be said just how much fortune smiled on Caesar! The Western World was shaped by this one individual so much that it should be required reading for high school students. For a 2000 year old book it reads exceptionally well, I highly recommend it

To hear the thoughts of one of the most famous men to ever live, and infamously die - this is why I love to read! The editor makes a few judicious clarifications to pronouns, but this is a clear and easy read. And fun! Tag along with Julius Caesar and the Roman legions as they suppress rebellious Gauls, repel German invaders, and generally out-wit and out-fight every living person between the Alps, Rhine, and Channel. Like history, military tactics, Rome, meglomaniacs, people whose lives and deaths alter human history? Then you'll want to see what Caesar has to say for himself.

A Classic translation, and still going strong. A bilingual text, Latin-English, would be preferrable for those readers who want to brush up on their Latin.

Oh, right, I'm supposed to review how well it's written? It's Julius f'in CAESAR! Divus Julius! Who am I to... OK, I suppose I can tell you that this translation is easily readable, written in modern English. This is a piece of our history, written by the man himself. It may exaggerate at times, but nobody takes this as gospel just because an actual eyewitness wrote it. Read a little of it, and then be amazed by what you're doing.

I say that only because we need to know strategy, thoughts, ideas, concepts, etc of those who went before us. This is one of many books that all military leaders, NCO, officers, etc should read to help them thing critically about their profession and strategy/..
