Book Description

October 1, 2007
As the Industrial Revoltion sweeps across the land, three adventuresome women will be transformed when they become "mill girls"

Daughter of the Loom--Forced to work in the mill as her only means of survival, Lilly Armbruster is deeply resentful of the powerful mill owners she believes forced her father's premature death. Lily is torn, however, when she discovers her one-time betrothed is one with the "lords of the loom." With her heart conflicted, Lilly's faith will be put to the test.

A Fragile Design--Fleeing the life of the Shakers, Arabella Newberry finds a taste of freedom working in the mills. But her greatest desire is for true equality for all mill girls, which puts her at odds with the dashing Taylor Manning. When several girls go missing, will she endanger more than her heart?

These Tangled Threads--Daughtie Winfield is outspoken in her support for the mill girls struggling for better working conditions and the immigrants on the other side of town. Dissention and upheaval threaten the future of the textile industry, but it is her growing friendship with Liam Donahue, a local artisan, that plays havoc with the love she yearns for.

A wonderful history lesson on how women were treated and thought of in this country, same as for the treatment of the Irish. Shows what a little power can cause a man to do.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Historical Fiction, April 24, 2011
This review is from: Bells of Lowell, 3-in-1 (Hardcover)
This is good historical fiction about a part of the industrial revolution we don't often read about. Very interesting as well as being a good story. I enjoy reading Christian fiction as it can be exciting and romantic without a lot of sex scenes that really don't add to the story. Tracie Peterson is very good a telling a good story and putting in just enough excitement and romance to keep you coming back for more. I do like the way she introduces the injustices of prejudice (in this books, it's the Irish) in many of her books. I also enjoy her treatment of the different personalities of the women in her stories. I do have one small complaint regarding this series - Tracie is apparently prejudiced herself against Catholics; being one myself perhaps I am more sensitive; but she has one of her heros remark about how his mother uses "charms" and implies superstition and witchcraft associated with Catholicism; also she paints the regional Catholic bishop in less than glowing terms. I would have preferred the hero find Jesus through the Catholic church but I guess that's too much to ask of a writer who is obviously anti-Catholic, just because she is ignorant of my own faith. The Catholic Church of the 1800s may seem like it was full of superstition to the uneducated but I would assure Tracie that the fullness of the Christian faith could and can be found within the fold of the only church founded by Jesus himself. Catholics are Christians, too.
I had to get that off my chest; otherwise, I find Tracie to be an excellent writer and recommend her books to anyone who enjoys Christian fiction that's not sugar-coated. There is sometimes tragedy, exciting adventure and always love, faith and friendship to be found in her stories.
