4.0 out of 5 stars Bells of Lowell, 3 in 1, September 17, 2011

A wonderful history lesson on how women were treated and thought of in this country, same as for the treatment of the Irish. Shows what a little power can cause a man to do.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Historical Fiction, April 24, 2011
This review is from: Bells of Lowell, 3-in-1 (Hardcover)
This is good historical fiction about a part of the industrial revolution we don't often read about. Very interesting as well as being a good story. I enjoy reading Christian fiction as it can be exciting and romantic without a lot of sex scenes that really don't add to the story. Tracie Peterson is very good a telling a good story and putting in just enough excitement and romance to keep you coming back for more. I do like the way she introduces the injustices of prejudice (in this books, it's the Irish) in many of her books. I also enjoy her treatment of the different personalities of the women in her stories. I do have one small complaint regarding this series - Tracie is apparently prejudiced herself against Catholics; being one myself perhaps I am more sensitive; but she has one of her heros remark about how his mother uses "charms" and implies superstition and witchcraft associated with Catholicism; also she paints the regional Catholic bishop in less than glowing terms. I would have preferred the hero find Jesus through the Catholic church but I guess that's too much to ask of a writer who is obviously anti-Catholic, just because she is ignorant of my own faith. The Catholic Church of the 1800s may seem like it was full of superstition to the uneducated but I would assure Tracie that the fullness of the Christian faith could and can be found within the fold of the only church founded by Jesus himself. Catholics are Christians, too.
I had to get that off my chest; otherwise, I find Tracie to be an excellent writer and recommend her books to anyone who enjoys Christian fiction that's not sugar-coated. There is sometimes tragedy, exciting adventure and always love, faith and friendship to be found in her stories.
