3.0 out of 5 stars High-energy mainstream jazz trio, March 7, 2003
By
This review is from: Bellson, Brown & Smith (Audio CD)
Pianist Paul Smith is a powerhouse jazz pianist, albeit in a conservative harmonic context. Bellson and Brown are quite capable of keeping up with him. Playing time is about 35 minutes, brief by modern standards. The tracks alternate between upbeat stomps and relaxed ballads.

1. The Lady Is a Tramp - 4:23
2. Yesterdays - 5:30
3. Everything Happens to Me - 3:38
4. On a Clear Day - 3:48
5. The Surrey With the Fringe on Top - 3:24
6. My Heart Stood Still - 5:52
7. Chicago - 3:33

8. Lover - 4:43

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music and great musicians, April 2, 2011
This review is from: Bellson, Brown & Smith (Audio CD)
I was surprised to see only one review of this recording, so in a rare moment of weakness, I am punching the keyboard. I have a well used copy of this on Master Disc vinyl, and I was looking for the convenience of CD, but am concerned about sound quality of the transfer. The recording is relatively short because of the format. Recorded "direct to disc" basically live in the studio, the time was very limited, but the music is first rate, and the original sound quality was terrific, like being there. Hopefully turning it into digital bits doesn't kill the great ambient feel of the recording.
