4.0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners
Of course, you can not learn how to dance with this book.
But I think it is a fun gift if you know somebody who is interested in belly dance and already knows some steps or movements.
The gift is not the little book, but the finger cymbals and adhesive jewels included.

1.0 out of 5 stars Belly Dancer in a Box
This is not a book. It is a box with a pamphlet inside. It has been referred to by dancers as "Belly Dancer in a Box".

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful gift! A beautiful symbol!, May 11, 2008

The Art of Belly Dancing (Miniature Editions Pocket Pack) was given to me as a keepsake from a friend who wanted me to always remember the years of dance that transformed my life in so many ways years ago.

No, you can't really expect to learn dance from it. But keeping it on your desk or coffee table does serve as a reminder to constantly seek out creative outlets that will always serve to transform your life!

It5's a beautifully designed package and -- most importantly -- it works for me!

5.0 out of 5 stars An easy way to acquire "Zils", February 15, 2007
This review is from: The Art Of Belly Dancing (Miniature Editions Pocket Pack) (Misc. Supplies)
I can't tell you how many bellydance DVDs I've gone through without zils and I really wanted to try them. There is something intoxicating about the sound and the rhythm and in a class setting they are fun to use or you can try them out with this book. I'd advise you find a bellydance video if you are trying to learn the moves because it is simply easier to experience the flowing beauty of this dance when you can observe a dancer in motion.

This kit provides you with the finger cymbals (zils) and a 32-page (really tiny) booklet about how you can learn a head circle, head slide, shoulder shimmy, rib slide, rib circle, belly roll, hip shimmy, hip circle, hip drop, snake hips, waist circles, snake arms and figure eights. The short section on finger cymbals explains how to put them on and then how to use them to "gallop" or "run." The advantage to having this small box is that you have a place to store your zils.

If you are looking for some fun Bellydance DVDs, you might enjoy the Veena & Neena Belldance Fitness for Beginners series. I especially enjoyed the Basic moves & Fat Burning Routine. Here are some to try if you want to try the DVDs:

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap finger cymbals, but they do the trick, September 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Art Of Belly Dancing (Miniature Editions Pocket Pack) (Misc. Supplies)
I was looking for cheap finger cymbals for an introduction to belly dancing class I was taking. These cymbals are not the best quality, but they are perfect for a beginner. Or someone like me who wasn't sure if bellydancing would be something I would continue to do. I had horrible rhythm so I did not use the cymbals for very long after becoming frustrated. The little book is nice for a "refresher" on how to do movements you may have already learned in class or on a dvd.
