5.0 out of 5 stars Healthy help for parents of small children, April 20, 2008
This review is from: Bellybuttons Are Navels (Young Readers Series) (Hardcover)
This book, BELLYBUTTONS ARE NAVELS, is a natural, appropriate, healthy book for parents to develop comfort "talking" (reading) to their young child or young children about their bodies -- one of the important stages in general and sexual health. I think it is an excellent book to read -- along with the other books parents read for quality time with thier kids! Thanks to Dr. Mark Schoen! Five stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Important and Practical Book - Do Your Kids a Favor, February 13, 2008
It is important that children learn the proper words to describe body parts including the anus and genitals. 'Bellybuttons' does this in the same format as any childrens book in a very matter of fact style. Surprisingly, many children enter adolescence and then early adulthood lacking a proper means to fully communicate about their own and other's bodies. Without these tools, children learn to be ashamed and frightened of their intimate body parts. This is a book that can be read to even young children that will foster not only anatomy education, but establishes the parent as a supportive person to whom a child can openly discuss sexuality.

If you want to see how young children might react to being read this book, then watch the video of a grandmother reading it to her grandchildren. I think that we have a dearth of role models for discussing anatomy with children. The video provides a style of reading the book that can be very helpful for shy parents.

'Bellybuttons' should be considered one of the must read books for children.
