Book Description

Salt Modern Poets S. November 15, 2002
Andrew Grace leads us back into the heartland, where things still grow, where locusts, biblical and otherwise, tear at the edges, where "the corn outgrew us, clogging our horizon / until all we could see was our small box of sky." How did we drift so far from this world? Understated, sure-footed, these poems bring us close to a mythical American landscape, so that each of us can become seers again.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Andy Grace's poems pick up and turn over everything you missed the first time around. Nothing escapes his notice - it's as if he is tuned in to every frequency at once. The poems are beautifully textured, delicate and yet disturbing - an unforgettable world of gnats, flies and locusts, "whirring ocean of motes and spores", apprehended and remade with a facility and confidence rare in a new poet. -- Tracy Ryan

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Grace's words are precious, like a roommate's love., September 18, 2003

This review is from: A Belonging Field (Salt Modern Poets S.) (Paperback)
What Frank O'Hara did for urban landscapes, Mr. Grace achieves in these rural portraits of life. Crisp and soothing, welcoming yet terrifying, these poems are a refreshing embrace to those sick of tired poetry. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the works of Charles Wright, James Wright, Frank O'Hara, Robert Lowell, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, James Kimbrell, etc.
