Review

It's now 1765, and for twenty years Ben Adair has lived with the horrible memories of what his long ago partner in piracy, Tom Gregg, did to Ben's men. Cast adrift, to die a terrible death, Ben feels partly responsible. Taking the Princess Ana for his own angered his evil partner enough to make him want Ben, and all those he cared for, dead. But Ben escapes with Ana to Boston, and over the years they build a thriving business and raise two beautiful daughters. Back in England Tom Gregg has passed on, leaving his son, Cain, confused over his father's death bed ramblings about Ben Scott. When the son of one of Ben's old shipmates comes looking for Tom Gregg, and revenge, the two men decide to work together to find Ben Scott (now Adair), and make him pay for what they believe are his terrible crimes. But the two men are unprepared for Aimee and Ayisha Adair, and the kind, generous man they call father. Torn between his duty to his father and his overwhelming love for Ayisha, Cain waits to be sure Ayisha feels the same before revealing his identity. Also torn between his want for revenge for his father's death and some compensation for the dead men's families, and his powerful love for Aimee, Seth Duncan must come to terms with the fact that Ben was not responsible, but instead has been haunted by the nightmare of twenty years ago just as Seth has. It is Cain and Ayisha that have the most problems, however, when they learn that Ben's hatred for what Tom Gregg did to his men runs deep, and never will he allow his daughter to marry the blood of a Gregg. An outside foe soon unites the family against him, and only then do they all realize how much they have wronged the other and must put the past behind them for sake of a bright future.Strong, powerful characters carry Ms. van Nuys' intriguing plots from beginning to end! Emotional from start to finish! Ms. van Nuys delivers a winner every time! Unforgettable characters in an unforgettable situation that leaves you sighing with relief at it's happily-ever-after, yet poignant, end!Diane Potwin -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. 5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner by Ms. Van Nuys, April 17, 2000

This review is from: Beloved Deceiver (Paperback)
I have read Beloved Avenger, Beloved Intruder and now Beloved Deceiver (I'm still trying to find Beloved Pretender) Ms. Van Nuys has an incredible gift of storytelling. I loved it that two sisters fall in love with two very wonderful men. Both started out with revenge in their minds but upon meeting the daughters of the man they seek revenge from, they decide to "wait a while". Life would be boring if there wasn't someone out there trying to make it difficult. In this case it's Jeremy an idiot who wants the fortune either of these beauties can bring to him. Never a dull moment in this book. Once you pick it up, you will be hard pressed to put it down. As the book comes to an end, you may find you want to read faster just to find what happens next. The ending is outstanding, it's better than I imagined. I wish Ms. Van Nuys would write a book about Mac, the friend who is like a brother to Aisha. Nevertheless, you won't be disappointed if you find and purchase this out of print book. I would try used paperback book stores or even Amazon's auctions.
