Most commentaries are useful tools, but they read just like comemntaries and are not necessarily meant to be read cover to cover. Beth Moore's deep study of the life of John isn't that way. Moore plunges into the heart of John' character, offering personal insights and practical tips on applying the lessons learned from this beloved disiciple.

This is the first Beth Moore book I have read and I was very happy with it. Many spiritual books are hard to read and take a great deal of discipline. Moore's frequent asides will make this spiritual book a more fascianting read.

She is also quick to point out where she is offering an opinion on a part of John's life that is not made clear by the text. She has done her homework in preparing for this book, having sought hte best resources to help fill in the blanks.

The strongest parts of The Beloved Disciple are Beth's observations on John's relationship with Jesus and with the other disciples. I was especially intrigued by her analysis of John's long life and how it may have caused him to wonder why God did not set him aside for martyrdom. Also, her research on Patmos made me realize he didn't just sit at a nice desk and write away. The exile was more like a labor camp.

The weakest point of the book is her coverage of Revelation. She admits to looking at the book only in terms of how it affects John's life. I would have liked to see her take on the events to take place in the end times.

By and large, however, this is a good book that brings fresh pracitcal and historical insights into the character of the Apostle whom Jesus loved.

I read this book at a time that I was living
many of the examples in it for myself.

We think of the apostles as "supermen",
but they had their own "issues" as we do.

This book shows the "Heart of Jesus", by
helping you address your own issues as you
identify with John, the beloved disciple.

The part that I liked the best was the
part about the Vision of the book of Revelation
where John recorded seeing the "Tribulation Saints".
They were singing a song that only they could learn.
Not even john could know the song. So it is with
us today. Sometimes when we go through our own trials,
the Lord will give us our own song. Amazing Incite.

I will say up front that I am a Beth Moore fan. However, I think that I loved this book above all her other titles. Some feel that it is inappropriate to imagine what Biblical characters thought or felt, but it helps me to understand the text better. I have often wondered what I might have done had I walked with Jesus, and this book granted me amazing insight into the day-to-day struggle that John and others had to commit their lives fully to Someone that they never fully understood.

That said, the greatest aspect of this book is love. Moore shows us how John abandoned ambition for affection, teaching others over and over again the importance of truly loving God and others. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Great insight into John, the one whom Jesus loved, as he calls himself, the author of Revelation. You see he and the others as they walk beside Jesus, growing in their faith in Him. Jesus revealed as they see Him.

It is clear when you read this book how much Beth Moore is in love with God, and that love is catching. This book depended my walk with God in a way that will stay with me always.

Beth Moore's "Beloved" is an intrigueing look into what made John's Gospel so different from the rest. Beth probes like few are gifted, to unveil the insights which reveal some unique components of John's character both strong and even the not so obvious aspects which culminates into John being known as "The Beloved Disciple". Join Beth Moore and enjoy the discoveries, as she escavates the clues which brings to light the hidden wonders of John's unique relationship with Christ.

She kept my attention throughout the book. She walked you through a Bible study but it felt like you were just reading a paperback. She made the character real to me. It was exciting for me because I was drawn to read my Bible along side this book. Great read but also great as a reference book in your library.

I wanted a book on the life of St. John the apostle. I read the reviews and parts of the books listed and picked this on for myself. My sister saw it and wanted one so I gave it to her. I will order one for me as soon as I am done reviewing it.

I'm using this book in a Bible study with my discipleship group. Not only are we seeing Jesus through John eyes, but that we can walk just as closely with Him. We might never ever see water changed into wine, but we can see a friend's life miraculously changed through a relationship with the Savior. This is a great book for not only diving into scripture, but also for having meaningful discussion.
