4.0 out of 5 stars sadly beautiful, January 14, 2012
This review is from: Beloved Enemy (Audio CD)
It's probably preaching to the converted to review a Bennett disc but this is just as good as his other solo material. Singer-songwriter rock n' roll inspired by "Exile on Main St.", Elvis Costello, 60's Kinks, and 60's Bee Gees. I met him once and we both spoke highly of an obscure favorite by the Bee Gees- "Cucumber Castle". Check it out and their conceptual album, inspired by "Sgt. Pepper's", "Odessa". They're not too easy to find but totally worth the effort. Jay's vocals ain't the greatest but his songs are and so there's a lotta charm in that there vocalizin. Jay probably smoked too many cigs. Oh well 'cause what he left behind is excellent. Also dig thru the internet and find the two free Mp3 download cd out there. More spare and acoustic but, in the immortal words of Paul Westerberg, "Sadly beautiful..."
