An exciting western detective romance,
This review is from: Beloved Protector (Mass Market Paperback)
In 1898 Cheyenne, Wyoming a frantic Eileen Caroni dispatches a telegram to her best friend Eliza Lowe back in Chicago pleading for help. The pregnant Eileen informs Eliza that the law is going to arrest her husband Francis for murder. Eliza wires back that she is on her way to provide comfort and aid to Eileen. However, Eliza's Aunt Vi arranges, over her niece's objections, to have a Pinkerton Agent accompany her. Though Case Brogan originally wanted to tell his boss Assistant Chief Riley no but he quickly jumps on escort duty when he learns the identity of the accused male in Wyoming. Francis Caroni killed Case's father. As both have their own agenda in wanting to find Caroni, Case and Eliza fall in love, but relationships require trust and neither established that key element from the start. BELOVED PROTECTOR is an exciting western detective romance that readers who enjoy historical tales will relish. The story line expertly merges the two genres into a taut plot in which the lead characters and several secondary cast members enhance the flow of the tale with their actions. Readers will enjoy this Americana sleuthing romance and seek previous works by talented Linda O'Brien. Harriet Klausner

An heroine in any Century,
By A Customer
This review is from: Beloved Protector (Mass Market Paperback)
Linda O'Brien's writing is always clear and concise. Her use of the English language is sharp and her descriptions are easy to visualize. But her character of Eliza is one of the best in Romance writing. Eliza is smart, yet naive. Optimistic, but also protective. Kind and considerate, and yet demanding. She is multi-dimensional and fun to get to know. Reading Ms. O'Brien's narratives is reminiscent of two friends having a private conversation over lunch. Beloved Protector is a must read for any reader.

Linda O'Brien is truly one of today's most exceptional authors. Although not yet widely known, Linda will surely take the country by storm with her latest novel, Beloved Protector. The brilliant prose combines character with passion, adventure with excitement, and will not leave you dissapointed. Unlike most of the literature written today, Linda's novels are sure to become an icon among romance writers worldwide. If you have not yet checked out her other works, I suggest you do so, fast!

Good Solid Entertainment,

I will have to get more of Linda O'Brien's books. Beloved Protector was an entertaining story the whole way through. Her writing style flows very easily. All of the characters are likeable, some even quirky. The lead female I liked immediately.
Beloved Protector makes unchaperoned travel between two unmarried people in 1898 totally acceptable. I doubt back then it would have been but with a chaperone along it would not have been as much fun. |
