5.0 out of 5 stars An impressive release from a quality band, June 8, 2005

"Below Sunset" is a great album for many reasons. It takes the listener on a journey - a trip that transcends the boundaries of the rock genre without alienating anyone seeking music that has appeal. The melodies, lyrics and performances all work together to create a tapestry that is consistently satisfying throughout all of the songs.

Hypnogaja is able to connect with the listener on a level that is far beyond that which many bands are ever able to achieve, without the air of pretentiousness that usually surrounds such high brow artistry. Thus, "Below Sunset" works on a plane that is both larger than life while still capturing an incredible sense of intimacy.

Rockers like "They Don't Care," "Misery," "Normal On The Outside," "Scorned" and "Put Your Hate On Me" all have an epic quality that urgently encompasses aggression, passion and frailty. Textured compostions such as "Looking Glass" and "Silver Star" showcase ShyBoy's sterling vocal abilities. And in softer moments such as the beautifully arranged "Wash It All Away," and the stunning piano ballad "Quiet," one is shown the true breadth of Hypnogaja's abilities. A highly recommended listening experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, June 8, 2005
This review is from: Below Sunset (Audio CD)
This album is amazing. I haven't stopped listening to it since I bought it. There are so many songs that I absolutely love, that speak to my soul. The vocals are breathtaking, so full of power, emotion and different colors. The fluid, theatric quality of the arrangements really supports the intelligent lyrics. Aggressive. Melodic. Dramatic. Moody. Breathtaking.
