5.0 out of 5 stars Best Detector Yet
I have owned several types of radar detectors and by far this is the best yet. The voice clarity is very good, the signals are clear and understandable and there are very few false alarms. This is the best bang for the bucks and I would recommend this to anyone! A great product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as expected
I ordered this unit based on the reviews and what people at the stores told me. I have owned 3 radar detectors in my life and this one falses the most. The worst part is that most falses are on Ka band and after a short time you don't know if you should slow down or not. It does have good range but what good is it if you can't trust it! the voice sounds like a 70's...

I bought this at Amazon. I drove to Albuquerque from Texas and back. It worked great! Saved me about 3 times. I like the voice which tells you which band it's detecting then goes to a series of clicks which tells you how strong the radar is. Overall a great deal by a well known brand name... happy driving! 4.0 out of 5 stars Radar Detector Review, January 10, 2000

I am very pleased with this radar detector, it very rarely gives false detections. The only real negative aspect of it is the fact that when the digital voice is inacted, it has poor sound quality. The microphone sounds very muffled and can be hard to understand the road hazard or other direction. This being my first radar detector (received as a gift) I didn't get a chance to comparison shop, so I'm not sure how this model compares with others in it's class. Overall I am happy with the performance my Bel Radar Detector.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but then I have nothing else to compare it to..., April 17, 2000

This is my first radar detector and I've had it for three or four weeks now. It has a great number of features for the money, including VG2-guard, 3 mounting options (velcro on-dash, suction-cup, and sun-visor), a more-than-intelligible voice and easy-to-use buttons. It does its fair share of falsing, but then I'd rather have an overly-sensitive detector than one that's not sensitive enough. Overall, I think it's a great deal for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars ***Great Price & Great Detector!, February 24, 2000

I am very impress with the performance of this radar detector! I've owned other brands before but this Bel 880 is by far the best! The sensitivity of the radar is awesome that false alarms are rare or at least you'll know when you are picking up false alarms. I also like the many features this detector offers. In the market for a well priced detector...I would highly recomend this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Electronics well done, March 20, 2000
This review is from: Beltronics 880 Super Wideband Ka Radar Detector (Electronics)
I've had this Radar for a few weeks now and it has responded very well. It does, of course, go off a bit directly in front (within the parking lot) of most stores but that is unavoidable witht he strength of their signal. For the current market of police radar detection it is above the norm.

4.0 out of 5 stars A decent dectector for the price, June 13, 2000

For the price range, I doubt that you will find a better detector on the market. I will agree with another reviewer in that I have had my fair share of falses on the ka band, but then again I wonder if I didn't see the squad going over the overpass etc. The city mode works well eliminating annoying alarm system falses. The "voice" is clear and understandable, but the volume control leaves something to be desired. All other settings buttons are easy to use, and the memory (of your previous settings) is a big plus. All in all, one could do much worse for the price.

3.0 out of 5 stars not so hot, September 26, 2000

This is the third Bel I've owned and I have to say I'm not impressed. It cries wolf constantly so I cant really trust it anymore. The last two models were much better at keeping the falses at a minimum so whatever they have done is about ten steps in the wrong direction.

1.0 out of 5 stars Frequent Falsing renders this product USELESS and UNRELIABLE, April 22, 2001

****UPDATE: I would rate this ZERO STARS if the option was available. I just completed a 4000km drive. The frequent falsing was unbearable and frustrating. This radar detector has an uncanny ability to scare the bejezzuz out of you (with a full signal Ka Warning) whenever you pass another vehicle with a radar detector!!! It falsed so much I couldn't trust it anymore. Why did I keep using it? I just wanted to see if it actually could detect a police car. It did do that on three separate occasions. However, I wasn't really sure if it was police radar or just another false alarm. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT!****

I have been using this radar detector on my daily 15 mile commute. I don't speed but the route I take has a painfully slow 50KPH speed limit. It is easy to exceed (especially on downhills) that if you are not paying attention.

I too have been getting a lot of falses. Most of them occurred in the same area. No big deal. The other source of false signals are definitely OTHER RADAR DETECTORS. Whenever I get a fase signal. I check around and many times I have found another car passing me with a radar detector. I tested this out by plugging in an old Cobra radar detector in the same car as my Bell 880 and in my other car. Both times my Bell 880 would go nuts.

Today I had an interesting experience with Ka band. I was driving down the highway and spotted a police car ahead in the left lane. I slowed down and stayed about 150 feet behind it. My radar detector was quiet the whole time. Suddenly the police car turned on its lights and did a U-Turn to pursue a car in the opposite late. My radar detector didn't go off until the police car was about 40 feet away. The Bell 880 immediatedly pegged itself on the Ka band. As soon as the officer passed me, it stopped beeping.

After this experience, I won't trust it's Ka performance.

I'll keep using it to remind me not to speed. I don't want my insurance to go up.

If you do speed with this radar detector, I don't think it is that much better than travelling without one.

A minor item which I don't like is the dimming feature on the LED display. Bright is real bright and Dim is still very bright. When you choose dark mode, it turns off your display. I'd like something I can read at night but not lighting up my entire passenger compartment.
