5.0 out of 5 stars He Brought Another Into Medicine for the Future, December 12, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ben Carson (Paperback)
My daughter read "Gifted Hands" 3 years ago.
She has become a 4.0 GPA student. She is studying so hard that her teacher's asked us what was driving her? We told them that she read a book and just took it to heart. She is totally taken with becoming a Pediatric Neurosurgeon.
All our daughter talks about is (when) she becomes a Dr. and helps the children she will be fullfilled in what her life is meant to be on this earth.
It is quite something since we adopted her out of a ghetto type

environment 4 years ago. She had only been in school 46 days in her entire life of 9 years of age. We burned the midnight oil with her and she blossomed. "A mind and a child are a terrible thing to waste". Thank God that we got her and she is on her way.
Thank you , Dr. Carson, you have done a great thing and continue to be a great motivator to those who will listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ben Carson - Christian Surgeon, March 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Ben Carson (Paperback)
The story of Ben Carson by Ben Carson is an account of the lifeof a young American who went through many obstacles to becomesuccessful. When Ben was a little boy, his parents split up and Ben is told that he will never see his father again. This is a hard time for Ben but not as hard as times to come. When Ben started school, he was teased because he wasn't as smart as everyone else was. But here's how " the class dummy" turned into an extremely talented brain surgeon. Ben is so talented that he has cured cases that other doctors said were impossible. Ben is what you call a neurosurgeon. A neurosurgeon is another name for a special brain surgeon. Ben has separated two Siamese twins that were connected at the head and shared a large artery that was essential to their health. He also helped a man with Von Hippel Lindau disease, a disease which causes many tumors to develop. He is also well known for his Hemispherectomies. A Hemispherectomy is the process of removing half of the brain. This process is only performed by the most talented neurosurgeons. Not only is Mr. Carson a very talented surgeon, he is a great Christian. First he didn't think anything was in store for him. But he was wrong. When he was eight years old he decided that he wanted to be a doctor, but he never really thought that it would happen. I had a great time reading this book and I hope that you take the time to read it. END

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope, determination and god's blessings, November 4, 2002
By
This review is from: Ben Carson (Paperback)
I read this book in which I had briefly heard the story of Dr. Ben Carson and was amazed at all of his accomplishments. This book was very inspiring and should be recommended reading for all youths and even adults to show them that their dreams can come true. Dr. Carson's story has really helped to inspire me for when times start getting tough that I should look to god for guidance.

I really liked this book. It is a real story of Ben Carson. When he was young other children called him dummy. He always wanted to be a doctor. Sometimes he thought that it could never happen but his mom would cheer him up. I think it's a great influence to kids. You should read this great book. Jk

5.0 out of 5 stars Read the Book; Listen to Him Speak, June 26, 2000
This review is from: Ben Carson (Paperback)
A crowd of about 2,000 listened to Dr. Carson speak to the 1997 Class in Medicine at East Carolina. His story is not only one of what an individual can achieve. It is also how a parent's love can guide and inspire a child to grow into a Dr. Ben Carson. We all have, but one Mom and Dr. Carson makes his proud. Read it! Thank those that have helped you and live to help others...
