How does this work?
Clicking the “Test drive now” button launches a copy of this app on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a web service that provides on-demand compute capacity in the cloud for developers. When you interact with the simulated phone using your mouse and keyboard, we send those inputs over the Internet to the app running on Amazon EC2 — just like your mobile device would send a finger tap to the app. Our servers then send the video and audio output from the app back to your computer. All this happens in real time, allowing you to explore the features of the app as if it were running on your mobile device.

Taking digital notes has never been so easy

Clean and clear graphical interface
Clean and clear graphical interface

You're in an important meeting or lecture when suddenly you realize--you forgot your pen or notebook! Or you're at a party and need to take down a phone number or an e-mail address. Don't trust your memory or try to scribble on a dry-cleaning receipt; the Handrite Note app is the solution you need.

The Write Move

Rather than trying to frantically type notes on your device keyboard, Handrite Note allows you to write with your finger right on your Android's screen. Each time you lift your finger, the character or symbol you wrote appears in the notebook interface. When you finish a word, just hit the space bar icon at the bottom of the screen. Hit Return if you want to move down to the next line. If you make a mistake, there's a simple backspace button to delete as many characters as you need to. You can also cut and paste with ease.

Handrite Note doesn't try to "read" your handwriting. Rather, it replicates exactly what you trace on the screen, as with a drawing program. This avoids the pain of having to "train" the app to read your writing, and the inevitable mistakes that occur. It also means you can sketch symbols, numbers, pictures, mathematical equations--whatever you write is instantly recorded digitally for later reference. And notes are saved automatically.

Right at Hand

You know how it goes: you write something down on a slip of paper or pad, then misplace it or don't have it when you need it. Now you can have your notes with you at all times, whether you're on the beach or in the boardroom. The app's time stamp and labeling system allows you categorize, sort, and find your notes quickly and easily.

You can also export your notes with a few taps on the screen. Whether you want to save it to your SD card, send it to yourself or someone else in e-mail, tweet it, post it to Facebook, or another sharing method, a note doesn't have to remain tethered to your Android device. Export in either JPEG or PNG format.

Function and Form

Unlike many notepad applications, Handrite Note allows you to write in style. Create and save different types of "pens," adjusting line thickness and color to fit your needs. Then swap them in and out when needed. You can also choose from 14 different styles of "paper," including beautiful solid hues, notebook lines, and even graph paper. The size of your text and spacing are also adjustable, so you can customize them for easy readability. Make the right choice with Handrite Note for Android.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect app for hybrid type and write June 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this app for note taking for grad school and it serves its purpose well. It's able to allow me to type notes and also hand draw or write equations and notations when I need to. the drawn figures then fit snugly right after the typed text and the whole note page looks very nice.

I like that I'm able to export my notes into png files and email them to myself. It makes turning in homework or sharing notes a breeze.

Some suggestions and wish list include:
- Allowing more file types to export or share, as png is nice but I'm unable to do text search on my notes once I exported them as png.
- Ability to manually override the scaling factor. When I draw a figure, no matter how big the drawing, the app seems to scale it down so it can fit onto the one line of notes. But sometimes I want to draw a big figure and not have it be scaled down.
- Ability to choose a previously drawn figure or notes and scale it back up. this feature would help solve the previous use case scenario.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a fan September 27, 2011

Samsung Epic, Android 2.2 official
Viewsonic gTablet, Calkulin+Clemsyn 1.5ghz Froyo Combo V6

I take mini notes all the time, be it personal notes, meeting notes, notes for specific customers, etc. So far, I have tried various handwriting apps but have yet to find one that I would consider using in place of the virtual keyboard. Handrite Note doesn't cut it for me either.

On my phone, the input area is pretty small, meaning I can't put much on a line via finger input before I have to stop and wait for Handrite to copy it over to the paper. Even in landscape mode, I can't seem to get more than 2 or 3 words. This makes input really really slow, even after twiddling with the option for how long Handrite waits after you stop doodling. On the tablet, which has a 10' screen, the area is much larger, and I could move along with greater speed, but still not nearly as fast as with the virtual keyboard.

Finger input on the phone was just ok, with Handrite mostly keeping up but missing strokes here and there. On the tablet, it really struggled and often parts of what I was writing were missing. Going back to correct it was hit and miss, depending on how Handrite determined the delay period. If I went really slowly, Handrite picked up everything no problem. But this, again, slowed down the input to an unacceptable level in comparison to just using the keyboard.

Hadrite comes with a ton of options, which I always like. Adjusting the width of the lines used, the color, the paper, showing a handwriting grid for easier following, and a lot more. But it's missing a help section, which leaves the user to kind of guess or just wonder what things are. For example, what is that orange circle that sometimes appears on the paper? How do I copy and paste, or edit out one specific word? It can be a little confusing, especially when the paste button looks like an undo button, (reverse circle). Only by messing around did I find out that you need to put in text via the keyboard to name your note something intelligent, and Handrite takes the first text it comes across, even if it's in the middle of the page. Also, use of the virtual keyboard lacks all spelling checks, suggestions, auto caps, and auto punctuation that one expects when using it as an input.

Overall, I found Handrite to be a less than desired note taking app. It's big feature is too slow for practical use, and without it, it's no more than a average note taking app.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice September 5, 2011

Worked fine. A little clunky in that it needs very large strokes but otherwise delightful. I thought there were issues, but it was user side (me!). Easier save option would be appreciated.

When I export my note to pdf, it came out a very long single page instead of a number of A4 size (for example) pages which would be easier to print. Freenotes has such function. Read more

Useful as a graduate student. Accurate, simple to use. Like that I can use different text colors and widths. Love the export functions: email as pdf, jpg, etc.

I like it because the typing is kind of slow. I was typing a song and had to wait and wait for all the letters to pop up.

Handrite pro pages
From what I have found, you can't. If you keep writing you will be able to scroll up and down endlessly, but you can't create pages you can flip through.

I'm considering getting a Kindle Fire. Would the Handrite Note Pro app work as a substitute for hundreds of post it notes generated by my husband?
