5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
This is the best eyeliner I've ever used. I prefer cake eye liner for the control of application. I used to use Clinique but it's no longer available.
I tried Bobbie Brown gel eye liner and found it goes on a little chunky because the consistency is too thick. I tried the Ben Nye brand because of the nice colors offered (I got Charcoal.) I like it even better...

I have to disagree with the other reviewers. I also used Clinique eye liner until they discontinued it and searched all over for a replacement. I purchased this one based on the positive reviews I read here. I however, do not like the way it goes on - thick and dark with a much heavier look than Clinique (I tried both charcoal and dark brown and use a very fine tipped...

I tried Bobbie Brown gel eye liner and found it goes on a little chunky because the consistency is too thick. I tried the Ben Nye brand because of the nice colors offered (I got Charcoal.) I like it even better than the old ones I used. It goes on with great control and, at the end of the day, it looks the same with no fading or smudging. It's a great value.

5.0 out of 5 stars This might be better than the one I've used for years, August 1, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
For years now, I have used Clinique cake eyeliner and have been totally pleased with it. Apparently, they no longer make that product and I have been desperately searching for a replacement. I discovered this one on Amazon, and I'm SO happy with it that I decided to write a review. This liner goes on beautifully (I use water to wet the brush); it stays were you put it and doesn't "feather"; you are easily able to create a clean, crisp line. The consistency is substantial enough that you don't have to keep "going over" the liner-line to get the look that you want. It stays on all day (no touch-ups needed), but removes cleanly/easily with eye-makeup remover. Since I can get the exact line that I want with just one stroke of the liner brush, I think I prefer this to Clinique (which frequently needed a couple of strokes to get the line defined "just right". One note: it does not come with a liner brush ... but if you are a fan of cake-liners, you probably have several already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cake Eye Liner, August 22, 2007

I have looked in retail stores for cake eye liner ever since Maybelline discontinued theirs. I finally googled cake eye liner and found this product. It is great! I have a good eye liner brush. With a drop of water, the cake eyeliner becomes a wonderful thick liquid that can be applied precisely where I want it.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last, September 14, 2007

I have been looking for some time for a black liner that goes on smoothly and actually lasts throughout my busy day. Liquid liners don't stay for me, MAC's black cake liner flakes, Bobi Brown's gel smudges, and nothing else I've tried has worked. So when I saw this liner, I was excited. I used to use Ben Nye when I toured with a dance company, and I remembered how well it held up under the hot lights and long routines.

Well, I got my order 5 days before it was scheduled to arrive, and I am thrilled. It is exactly what I wanted, a deep, smooth black that mixes instantly with water and glides like paint off my brush. I can control it easily to make day or night time looks--and it lasts. I made a line and ran my finger over it after it had dried. It didn't smudge. Then I stuck it under the faucet. It didn't run. But when I rubbed it with soap, it came off instantly.

I just wish this seller offered it in some of the other colors it comes in (like plum), because I don't plan on using any other brand again. Ever. It works as well for the street as it did for the theater.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous cake eyeliner, February 8, 2008

This has got to be the best cake eyeliner. Very rich and long lasting. Suggestion: use lots of water and with eyeliner brush, work up a good consistency and then apply. The first time I used it, I put a tiny bit of water but the cake absorbed it quickly and very little color came off.

The great thing about cake is that because you use water, it dries quickly. And this cake eyeliner is so smooth you have great control.

One other trick: use the same shade of eyeshadow and layer over the eyeliner. This will cover any mistakes and make the eyeliner smoky and exotic looking.

I purchased this one based on the positive reviews I read here. I however, do not like the way it goes on - thick and dark with a much heavier look than Clinique (I tried both charcoal and dark brown and use a very fine tipped brush) If you like the "Elvira" eyeliner look, then this is what you want. I like the more subtle look of the Clinique product. Also, a clerk at Macy's told me Clinique is bringing back the eyeliner in February, but nobody else I have talked to has heard that.

Ben Nye cake eyeliner is as good as or better than Clinique which I have used for years. It's got a better price point and does a very good job. This is an excellent product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cannot live without this Ben Nye Cake Liner! It's fabulous!, June 17, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is now my all time favorite, absolute MUST HAVE black eye liner! Wow! I love it!! I used to use MAC Fluidline, and Ben Nye is SO much easier to work with & black as sin!!!

I recommend this to everyone!

I use Medusa's Make Up Eye Liner Seal with the Ben Nye Cake Liner - utter perfection. Stays put over 14 hours, without a smudge or crease or any other imperfection!

Try it, i think it may just be your new favorite product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cake Eyeliner--The Best, June 26, 2008
This review is from: Cake Eye Liner - Black (Misc.)
I love this product. Being blond, without eyeliner and mascara I have what I call that "reptilian look". Having exhausted my brick & mortar search for matte cake eyeliner, Amazon saved the day. With a good (thin) brush, you can mix this to just the right consistancy and paint away! My only wish is that Ben Nye would add to the color selection and make it in navy, medium to dark green, and white.
