I ordered this bag in brown, because I liked the way it looked with both the leather and canvas. I was looking form something that would look good both at work and school. I was surprised that when I opened the box, the canvas was much more khaki colored that I was expecting. This was fine for me, but if you are looking for the lighter cream color that comes across in the photo, you will be disappointed.Overall this is a nice bag. It looks and feels well made and I think it would hold up well over time. I feel that it is a good quality for the money. It has a half flap with hidden magnets to hold down the flap and in the two outer pockets to secure whatever you put in them. The buckle detail is only for show. They aren't functioning buckles. There are a couple of zipper pockets (one in front and one in back) for things like magazines, papers, or files. There are two inner pockets for a cell phone, mp3 player, or things like that as well as a few pen loops and a small inner zippered pocket for things you need to secure a little more. There are two things that I didn't like about this bag. One is that once I put a couple of textbooks in it and put it on to see how it felt and looked, the leather kind of bunched on one end where it folds over and didn't lay flat. I may not bother some people, but to me it detracted from the look of the bag. This may not happen if you don't put as much in it, but I didn't try that as I'll probably always have a lot in whatever bag I'm using. The other is that there is no handle to grab it quickly. I do wish the back panel was a little more padded, so that when it is against your body full of textbooks there is a little bit of cushion. I like to wear my messenger bags right on the hip, so without padding it can get uncomfortable quickly. The strap is well padded and I think it would remain comfortable after long wear around campus or when out on the town.

Actually using this as a day to day laptop carrier probably isn't that practical. Barely fits my 15" Dell and even tighter fit with a writing pad in the other pocket. Not an adequate amount storage for pens, etc.BUT, it looks great...good quality. So what do you want Form over Function? This is for you. Then again, i'm high maintenance.

Stylish but lacks functionality,

Pros: Great style. Good for limited number of books and articles. Good sturdy material. Will look good if you have some more weight in the bag.Cons: Flap is flimsy as it has magnets. So it actually does not shut well. If you try and pick it up from its handle it'll open allowing your things to pop up. Less space for a larger sized laptop. Overall good price for a different style and very fashionable. But not fit to be marketed as a laptop bag.

I needed a messenger bag that would be dressy enough for it to pass as a pseudo brief case while I am wearing a suit for work. The design of this bag has accomplished it. The front flap has a very nice leather feel with a great gloss. The bag is light and is meant to carry a few things effectively and yet still maintaining a dignified sense of style. The Ben Sherman Messenger bag could easily have been seen on a male model in the magazine Esquire. It has that kind of manly feel to it.The philosophy of its design states "this isn't your wife's purse, but its not a school boy back pack either." The leather flap connects to the bag itself by magnets. I prefer this over my American Eagle Messenger bag that uses Velcro. I found the Velcro of my other bag constantly coming loose and sticking to things like the sweater of the man sitting next to me on a train. Also the Velcro would accumulate hair, yarn, and string from wherever it would go with me. Cleaning Velcro is very similar to cleaning a litter box. Another messenger bag I tried used a zipper. I was constantly being irritated by zipping and unzipping my bag. Nothing is more irritating than sitting in a movie theater with the guy behind you constantly digging into his bag because his wife needs chap stick, gum, and tissues because his wife left her purse in the car. Ben Sherman offers an innovative magnet system in order to keep contents inside of bag. The smaller pouches on the front of the bag are also set up to close through the use of magnets. The main pouch area of the bag has a hidden zipper pouch area that is meant to hold cash or passports. It also has a spot designated to hold cellphones. Most cellphones could fit easily into the holder. Areas of disappointment: I purchased the Ben Sherman Accessories Hunt Messenger bag in black thinking that it would be black canvas with black leather but it was brown leather and black canvas. This does not negate my love for the bag but it would have been nice to know. What you need to know: It is not very large. Some messenger bags are designed to carry your gym shoes, a towel, and a calculus text book. This is not one of those kind of bags. It is meant to carry a book, (singular) laptop, (no more than 15" inches) and a few other essentials.

Stylish bag but once you open it, you will notice that there are a few "shortcuts" such as the buckles are just for design, the bag used magnets to keep the cover close which isnt a huge problem for me. As for the colour, it's not creamy white which is the colour i prefered but it's more of khaki colour which the other reviewer had already pointed out.

My son picked this bag out for his wish list for Christmas. Although it is not the color he thought it would be -brown/black but just black on black, he was very pleased with bag for sturdiness & actually liked the color better.
